摘要: The method and apparatus disclosed herein provide a stratified heat bath for use in the heating stage of thermoplastic deformation. It allows for heating of central sections of the thermoplastic lengths in order to render said lengths susceptible to deformation without heating the end sections or tangents of said lengths, permitting the ends to retain their original shape. In the case of tubular lengths, such as lengths of PVC pipe, the invention provides for more rapid heating than in the prior art.

摘要: The process comprises forming a mixture containing a thermoplastic material and a cross-linking agent and causing the mixture to enter a die head. A pressure is exerted on the mixture in the die head along the axis of the die head so as to sinter the mixture. The die head is heated to a temperature lower than the temperature at which the cross-linking agent becomes substantially decomposed so as to cause fusion of the mixture and produce a formed material. The formed material is passed through a bath of molten salt downstream of the die head. The temperature of the molten salt is such as to achieve the decomposition of the cross-linking agent and the cross-linking of the formed material. A device is described for carrying out the process.

摘要: A method for curing fiber-reinforced resin matrix composite materials (22) includes the steps of providing a form (14) and positioning uncured composite material (22) on the form (14) substantially into a desired shape. The composite material (22) is then cured by providing a fluid bath (10) heated to a predetermined temperature, and heating the composite material (22) by immersing the positioned composite material (22) on the form (14) into the fluid bath (10) for a predetermined time. The predetermined time is sufficient to allow the composite material (22) to become cured and to heat the composite material (22) at a rate sufficient to provide resin flow prior to hardening. Compressive pressure is provided on the composite material (22) while it is immersed in the fluid bath (10).

摘要: A continuous process method of molding composites. The method includes substantially filling a pressure chamber with a solid flowable polymer. The pressure chamber has a series of subchambers separated by a series of spaced apart baffles, but connected through baffle openings. A tube connects at least two subchambers, a transferring subchamber and a receiving subchamber. The polymer is displaced through the tube producing a polymer flow in the chamber through the baffle openings from the receiving subchamber to the transferring subchamber causing the receiving subchamber to have a higher pressure than the transferring subchamber. A composite precursor is passed through the pressure chamber by entering the precursor through the low pressure transferring subchamber wherein the composite precursor is exposed to pressure caused by the solid flowable polymer in order to cure the composite.
