摘要： A type band for a printer comprises a track of marks to be scanned (timing marks) at least one of which is obliquely positioned relative to its adjoining marks. The centers of all marks are equidistantly spaced. When the horizontally moving type band is vertically displaced, the time spacing of the scanning signal of the obliquely positioned timing mark is changed over the scanning signal of its adjacent timing mark. The magnitude of the vertical displacement of the type band is derived from the change in this time spacing. The displacement data thus obtained permit compensating for the vertical displacement of the type band (using, for instance, a stepper motor).

摘要： A type arrangement data editing apparatus in which type arrangement data from a type carrier is automatically edited in accordance with the carrier set carried by the type carrier. A first area of a ROM stores the basic type arrangement data for a plurality of basic character sets. A second area of the ROM stores replacement data which is replaced for specific symbols in the basic character sets, and the start addresses of the type arrangement data for each set. An identifier identifies which character set and which replacement data are carried on the type carrier. A microprocessor stores a program for retrieving the respective type arrangement data and inserting the replacement data therein. The data is sent to a RAM, where it is compared to input data to print a specific print symbol.

摘要： A printing apparatus is provided which utilizes rolling pressure contact for printing, and includes a plurality of sets of serially arranged character elements mounted for movement on the external surface of a printing drum. Movement of the sets to place a desired character into printing position is accomplished by controlling the speed of a motor driving a pulley connected by cable to a given character set, relative to the speed of a motor driving the printing drum in rotational movement.

摘要： A strip assembly for a printing device having an endless type band frictionally driven by drive and idler pulleys between print hammers and a platen comprises a wear strip and wiper strip attached together at a common end. The wiper strip has a wiper portion extending from the point of attachment which terminates in a scraper edge. A retention device mounted in proximity with the drive pulley comprises means connectable to the common end to hold said wear strip under tension and said wiper strip in spring loaded condition with the scraper edge in contact with the drive surface of the drive pulley for cleaning wear strip residue and other deposits from the pulleys and the type band.

摘要： Described, is a printing mechanism allowing full exploitation of the potential of dot matrix printing. Dot forming elements are mounted on a carrier for transport past an array of hammers located in front of media to be marked upon. The dots or carrier are impacted by the hammers to form dots on the medium. By appropriate control of motion of the printing medium and timing of the hammer impacts, a dot may be formed anywhere on the surface of the medium. This allows unlimited character font set generation as well as special character printing for enlarged font, miniaturized font, fast rough draft copy printing, the printing of ascenders and descenders for characters and for condensed or compacted printing. In addition, the mechanism permits an all points available graphics generation system and full control for variable vertical spacing of printed elements and of variable horizontal spacing of the printed elements. Variable print element shapes, grey tone graphics printing and multi-color additive or subtractive color processes are also facilitated. To improve the throughput speed, a reversible motor is used for driving the dot element carrier and a plurality of dot font sizes and shapes are provided on the carrier. By selection of the required font size and shape and by comparison with the presently known position of the carrier, the quickest access to the next desired dot font for any given hammer can be achieved.

摘要： A wide endless flexible band (10) is molded on a flat core blade (12) with one group of laterally extending rows of outwardly projecting printing characters (16) molded on one side of the core blade between a set of laterally extending notched guide bars (32). The notches within the guide bars are used to align the wide endless band on a rotary cylindrical arbor (40) precisely with a set of spaced cutters (44) which slit the wide band at laterally spaced intervals into a plurality of relatively narrow endless printing bands. The wide endless band is also molded with a second group of raised characters (14) which correspond to the printing characters and are positioned on the other side of the core blade between a set of laterally extending continuous guide bars (24). The continuous guide bars have outer surfaces which are flush with the outer surfaces of the raised characters and provide for precisely guiding a member (28) which removes a coating of color contrasting material from the outer surfaces of the characters to make them visually readable.

摘要： A marking machine having plural marking heads, the novel heads being separately reciprocable between a retracted storage position and an extended marking position to provide plural print lines on, e.g., a label. The marking heads reciprocate in motion planes angled relative one to another, with at least one of the motion planes being angled at an acute angle to the machine's platen, to permit closer spacing of the print lines one to the other on the label. The marking machine also includes a novel inker mechanism that permits an ink pad to be easily removed from gravity connected relation with its motor for re-inking of the pad apart from the machine. The marking machine further includes a novel print adjustor mechanism for each marking head which selectively cooperates with all print bands on wheels of that head for easy and simple manual repositioning of the bands on wheels as desired.
