摘要: An image forming device and method are provided which reduce erroneous detection of a border between transfer material areas when forming a new image by using unused portions of partially used transfer material areas. The image forming device forms an image having a first size or a second size which is one-half of the first size or smaller on a recording medium by transferring transfer materials respectively for transfer material areas, while feeding a strip-shaped transfer medium on which the transfer material areas each having the first size and respectively corresponding to the transfer materials are repeatedly arranged in a predetermined sequence in the longitudinal direction thereof. The transfer medium is fed in a forward direction until an unused portion of a subsequent transfer material area adjacent to a used portion of a transfer material area reaches the detection position and thereafter fed in the reverse direction, so that the border between the used and unused portions is detected from the unused portion side, when a second-size image is newly formed by using unused portions in the respective transfer material areas having been used to form a second-size image.

摘要: To provide a printing apparatus that does not degrade the printing quality even when reciprocating shifts of a film-shaped medium are continued, an ink ribbon 41 that is the film-shaped medium is laid between a supply spool 43 and a wind-up spool 44 with regions used in printing on a single printing medium formed continuously in the longitudinal direction. A counter counts the number of times an unused region in the ink ribbon 41 located in a predetermined position between the supply spool 43 and the wind-up spool 44 reciprocates and shifts between the supply spool 43 and the wind-up spool 44, and when the number of times reaches the predetermined number, the wind-up spool 44 is driven to shift the region in the wind-up direction from the printing position.

摘要: An ink ribbon conveyance mechanism conveys an ink ribbon including color ink layers. A transfer film conveyance mechanism conveys a transfer film on which transfer frames are formed at a predetermined pitch in a longitudinal direction and demarcated by frame marks having light transmissivity lower than that of the rest of the transfer film. A line sensor is arranged to extend in a width direction of the transfer film across end portions of the frame marks in the width direction. A thermal head is brought into press (contact with a platen roller with the ink ribbon and transfer film interposed in between. When forming color images on a selected one of the transfer frames, the controller adjusts positions of the images to be formed on the selected transfer frame in the width direction based on light-reception information outputted from the line sensor.

摘要: A ribbon includes a ribbon body, a plurality of first dye regions, a second dye region and a protecting dye region. The plurality of the first dye regions are sequentially arranged on the ribbon body. The dyes of the first dye regions are able to mix with each other. The second dye is located on a side of the plurality of the first dye regions, and the second dye region is located between the protecting dye region and the plurality of the first dye regions. The dye of the second dye region is unable to mix with the dyes of the first dye regions.

摘要: A method of operating a transfer printer configured to transfer ink from a printer ribbon to a substrate which is transported along a predetermined substrate path adjacent to the printer. The printer comprises a tape drive comprising two tape drive motors, two tape spool supports on which said spools of ribbon may be mounted, each spool being drivable by a respective one of said motors. The printer further comprises a printhead being displaceable towards and away from the predetermined substrate path and being arranged to, during printing, contact one side of the ribbon to press an opposite side of the ribbon into contact with a substrate on the predetermined substrate path, and a printing surface. The printer further comprises a controller configured to control the tape drive to transport ribbon between the first and second ribbon spools. The method comprises controlling the tape drive to perform a ribbon movement in which ribbon is transported between first and second ribbon spools along a ribbon path, the ribbon path having a first length during a first part of said ribbon movement, and a second length during a second part of said ribbon movement, a transition from the first length to the second length being caused by a displacement of the printhead with respect to the printing surface, wherein control of at least one of the tape drive motors is based upon data indicative of the first and second lengths.
