摘要:
A check book unit has a card reader and a PDA-type system. Check transactions are recorded in the unit using the PDA-type unit and a computer keeps track of the balance and other data associated with the check transaction. A card reader is also included and uses one of the magnetic stripes on a debit card. After a debit card is used, the details of the transaction are recorded onto the magnetic stripe. When the debit card is swiped through the card reader on the unit, the details of the transaction are transferred into the computer memory associated with the unit. The computer then records the details of the transaction from the data entered on the debit card and performs the arithmetic required to balance the user's check book balance.

A process is provided for producing booklets, such as bank check booklets, having variable printed information. A paper stock for the booklets, perforated for separation into panels, is coated with a catalyst along certain surfaces. After passage through a non-impact printer, such as a laser printer, the panels are separated and stacked in such a way that the surfaces coated with a catalyst extend along an edge of each panel, with these edges being aligned in a common direction. When the coated edges of each stack of panels are subsequently pressed against an adhesive layer coated on a binding cover, the catalyst begins the process of hardening the adhesive in the layer.

A personal check includes a substrate defined to be written on and to be transferable from a first person to a second person. The personal check also includes: check characterizing indicia printed on the substrate, and at least three different types of identification indicia printed on the substrate such that the identification indicia are not removed from the substrate when the substrate is transferred from the first person to the second person. These identification indicia include a picture of at least the face of the first person, an alphanumeric physical parameter identifying an at least approximately visually discernable physical characteristic of the first person, and a predetermined signature of the first person. In one implementation, the check characterizing indicia and the identification indicia are interposed on the substrate. A plurality of these personal checks are comprised in a checkbook. A method for discouraging personal check fraud comprises providing to a computer system at least the aforementioned three different types of identification indicia about a personal checking account holder. The method further comprises printing with the computer system a plurality of personal checks for the account holder. This includes printing the at least three different types of identification indicia to permanently remain on each personal check.

A wallet-sized checkbook particularly suited for use in conjunction with a one-write check record keeping system wherein an entry is made on a journal page simultaneously with the writing of a check. The checkbook enables records of checks written in the field to be subsequently transferred directly on to a one-write journal page. The book comprises a cover having an interior pocket and a writing surface fastened at one end to the inside of the cover. A data sheet of coated release paper overlies the writing surface and releasably carries a series of ink-receptive strips adapted to receive ink from a carbon strip extending along the reverse side of a one-write check. A check is positioned on top of a selected strip on the data sheet by a series of pins which project through pre-punched holes in a widthwise margin of the check. Indicia on the opposite margin of the release paper cooperate with the pins to assist in the check-positioning function. Thus, data written on the front of the check is transferred via the carbon to the underlying strip which can be subsequently peeled from the release sheet and applied at the appropriate line of a journal page to provide an accurate record of the field-written check.

A bank checking system for carrying and recording standard size checks is adapted for storage in a pocket compartment of a wallet. The system includes a cover member which may be opened and closed on a fold line. One half of the folding member holds a plurality of sequentially numbered, standard size checks folded and stacked such that they may be removed in sequence without disturbing the remaining checks. The other half of the folding member holds a register including a continuous sheet folded into collapsible segments.
