    摘要: The handling properties of two-wheeled trolleys may be materially improved by arranging for the freely rotatable wheels (1, 2) to be able to move to a certain extent relative to the frame or load-receiving container portions (3, 4, 5) of the trolley in a direction parallel to the direction of travel of the trolley. This can be achieved by mounting the trolley wheels (1, 2) so that they, and the axles (32) on which they are mounted for free rotation, can, preferably independently, swivel about a horizontal axis displaced from (and lower than) the level at which the wheels are mounted on their respective axles. The wheels are preferably set at a high positive camber angle. Letting the wheels swivel materially improves handling on rough terrain. The trolley is preferably foldable to save space when being transported or stored.

    摘要: A vehicle comprises a regulation device for ordering of movements of the vehicle (1) in a horizontal plane and a control device with a calculation unit arranged to produce signals to control the control and drive means of the vehicle's wheels (3) by information from the regulation device to achieve movement as instructed by the regulation device. The regulation device is designated with the capability to, on request of a change of the vehicle's direction in the horizontal plane, order a location for a turning point (B) for the vehicle located anywhere in the horizontal plane. The control device's calculation unit is designed to calculate the instantaneous desired value of the respective wheel's angular alignment relative to a lengthwise axis of the vehicle corresponding to the location of said turning point as ordered by the regulation device and send signals to the control means so as to achieve that alignment.

    摘要: According to the preferred form of the invention, a pair of thin wheels is rotatably mounted in the bottom of the body of a caster or other load supporting wheeled device in a bilaterally symmetrical array. Each of the wheels has a downwardly facing outer terrain-engaging surface in the general form of a frustocone, and an upwardly facing inner annular bearing surface which is opposed by a complementary annular bearing surface on the bottom of the body. Preferably one or more antifriction washers are interposed between the wheel and body bearing surfaces. This arrangement provides large bearing surface areas which are located directly above the lowermost apex of the frustoconical terrain-engaging surface so that direct vertical loading is applied through the bearing surfaces to the terrain-engaging footprint of each wheel, thereby avoiding cantilever action, avoiding any need for rollable bearings, and permitting the wheels to be very thin and of extremely low profile. The caster or other load supporting wheeled device of the invention is thereby enabled to have a large-area footprint with a very shallow, gradual tangential relationship to the terrain, thereby minimizing depression into soft terrain, and this is further aided by a contoured glide surface on the bottom of the body which leads from the front end of the body rearwardly to the wheels.

    摘要: A castor has a domed wheel rotatably mounted about an inclined axis on a body itself pivotally mounted on or about a vertical mounting spindle. The wheel axis is offset laterally of the spindle axis and the wheel has a rim with a convex part-spherical ground-engaging surface. The body is moulded with an integral bearing boss and the wheel is moulded with an integral bearing boss, the bosses engaging one within the other to provide a bearing for the wheel. The spindle is located in a bore in the body and engages in a peripheral groove in the boss to locate the wheel axially with respect to the body. A sleeve-like portion of the body moulding concentric with and surrounding the boss provides an outer female bearing surface for the wheel boss.

    摘要: A caster construction includes an obstacle clearing member supported continuously in advance of the path of rolling movement of the caster for free vertical movement above and preferably below the floor contacting surface of the caster wheel such that the clearing member preferably slides continuously along the floor to clear objects from the path of the wheel, but yet can move upwardly relative to the wheel should the wheel encounter a depression in the floor. The free vertical movement also compensates for wear along the lower edge of the member. The clearing member may be a cylindrical sleeve slidably supported or guided by a support means coupled to the caster swivel spindle or other appropriate part of the caster construction or the device to which the caster is attached. The attachment is particularly useful for mechanic''s creeper wheels.
