A second platform is mounted atop the first platform for sliding movement parallel thereto and a compression mechanism coacts with the platforms and secures them in respective positions. More specifically, each platform includes a horizontal support member and a web extending downwardly from such members. The platform webs are closely proximate one another and when the compression mechanism is tightened, the webs and one of the links are compressed together. Web/link compression prevents up-down movement of the platforms in unison and also prevents movement of the second platform with respect to the first platform. A new method for moving the position of a control lever mounted on the console is also disclosed.

A mechanism for mounting a forward pedal and a reverse pedal to a vehicle. The forward pedal is fixed to a primary shaft, and the reverse pedal is fixed to a secondary shaft. A control arm and control rod operatively extend between the primary shaft and a transmission. A linkage extends between the reverse pedal and the primary shaft for pivoting the primary shaft and shifting the control rod in reverse directions such that the transmission shifts to reverse modes when the operator engages the reverse pedal. The linkage includes a reverse arm coupled with the primary shaft, and a reverse link extending between the reverse arm and the reverse pedal. A bracket member fixed to a floor plate of the vehicle supports the primary and secondary shafts, and is fixed to the vehicle generally directly beneath the foot of the operator. The bracket member supports each shaft at at least two locations laterally spaced a substantial distance. Mating shapes are defined between the reverse arm and the primary shaft for fixing the primary shaft for rotation with the reverse arm. Mating shapes are also defined between the reverse shaft and reverse pedal for transmitting pivotal motion therebetween. The reverse link is confined in engagement with the reverse pedal and the reverse arm by abutment with the bracket member.

Improved paint striper control, speed and quality is achieved by articulating a motor driven push tractor unit to a steerable walk behind paint striping unit. In a preferred embodiment, a two wheeled rear push tractor unit supporting a drive motor and driver's seat is coupled through a quick release ball-socket pivot joint behind a three wheeled handlebar steered push-to-paint manual striping unit. The articulation joint with help of a hydrostatic trans-axle transmission in the tractor unit produces a sharp turning eighty degree radius. Also the transmission unit functions to drive the assembly in straight lines. The user controls steering to deviate from a straight line at the handlebar grips in substantially the same manner as if walking behind the paint striper. Thus the user rides quickly along the striping path with a good view at the paint spray jets to monitor performance and achieve higher output volume and quality.
