    摘要: A gear reduction mechanism, particularly for use in an offset final drive unit for vehicular applications, has an input gear meshing directly with the output gear and two additional gear trains between the input and output gears. Three separate load paths therefore exist for the transmission of torque from the input gear to the output gear which means that the face widths of all the gears can be substantially reduced in comparison with a conventional single-mesh arrangement and the overall mechanism can therefore be of reduced width.

    摘要: A controlled differential, particularly for exercising steering control of skid steered vehicles, having a compound planetary gear set coupling two shafts. Respective ring gears turn with the shafts and mesh with a compound planet gear in a planet carrier, the ratios of the number of gear teeth between each ring gear and the respective gear of the compound planet being unequal so that when the planet carrier is stationary the two shafts are coupled through the differential to turn together in the same sense but with a speed difference, and controlled rotation of the planet carrier varies the speed difference between the shafts in accordance with the sense and speed of rotation of the planet carrier.

    摘要: A final drive assembly, particularly for a skid steered vehicle, comprises a planetary gear reduction mechanism of which the input is through the sun gear 38 and the output is through the planet carrier 43. The sun gear is formed on a hollow shaft 26 which is driven by a coupling shaft 18a extending coaxially within it. These shafts are coupled through a coupling member 31 splined to each shaft, the larger diameter coupling 32 with the hollow shaft 26 being a crowned spline coupling to accommodate angular misalignment between the shafts.

    摘要: A drive configuration for a skid steered vehicle comprises a pair of electric motors for propulsion of the vehicle, one each coupled to drive a respective track on a respective side of the vehicle, and one or more electric steer motors coupled through a differential gear mechanism to impose a speed difference between the tracks. An associated control system controls the current to each motor so that substantial contributions to the differential torque to turn the vehicle are made both by the steer motors and by the propulsion motors, in variable proportions preferably as a function of the vehicle speed.

    摘要: A two-mode, compound-split, electro-mechanical transmission that selectively receives power from an internal combustion engine as well as a source of electrical energy. Three power receiving planetary gear subsets, first and reverse mode selecting planetary gear subsets, a steering planetary gear subset and left and right output planetary gear subsets are employed. A steering mechanism operates a steering motor. Torque transfer devices selectively ground components of the first and second mode selecting planetary gear subsets. The left and right output planetary gear subsets present corresponding out shafts. The left and right output planetary gear subsets are connected to each other by a shaft which assures simultaneous rotation of one component in the left and right output planetary gear subsets. Another component of the left and right output planetary gear subsets are connected to each other by a retro-rational gear shaft assembly.

    摘要: The ATV transmission includes an epicyclic arrangement, which serves as a drive-differential. One road wheel is geared to the planet-carrier or spider, and the other to the ring gear, while the engine drives the sun. An idler-gear between the ring and its road wheel means that the ring and the spider rotate in opposite senses, whereby a large gear ratio between the sun and the road wheels can be provided. Steering of the vehicle is provided, by driving the road wheels at different speeds. This is accomplished using a steer-differential, which is identical to the drive-differential; rotating the sun of the steer-differential imposes a corresponding differential speed on the road wheels.

    摘要: A transmission for a crawler tractor includes a first cross-drive shaft arrangement including two separate sections with a forward/reverse bevel gear arrangement connecting the two sections to a drive input shaft so that each shaft section is capable of being driven in forward or reverse. A second cross shaft arrangement is connected to the first cross shaft arrangement by constant-mesh spur gears and a third cross shaft arrangement is connected to the second cross shaft arrangement by further sets of constant-mesh spur gears. The second and third cross shaft arrangements are separated into shaft sections and the spur gearing and connections between shaft sections may be controlled such that Low and High working ranges may be effected in the transmission with first and second speeds being possible in the Low range, third and fourth speeds being possible in the High range and with a reduction being possible in each of the Low and High ranges. The transmission is further controllable for driving the opposite tracks of a crawler tractor in either forward or reverse at the four speeds, or for turning the tractor either by pivot-turning (power on the outer track), or by power-turning (power on both tracks but at different speeds) or by spin-turning (power on both tracks at the same speed but is opposite directions).
