    摘要: A method and apparatus for decomposing a sodium aluminate liquor supersaturated with alumina, obtained from alkaline action on bauxite by the Bayer process, is initiated by introduction of alumina trihydrate seed, thereby forming a suspension. The suspension is fed in at the top of a non-agitated reactor described as a "decomposer", and removed from the bottom of the decomposer; the speed at which the suspension moves downwardly is regulated at 1.5 to 10 meters per hour. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical-conical reactor which is fitted with an arrangement for feeding in the suspension at the top, and with an arrangement for taking out the suspension at the bottom. In one embodiment of the apparatus the suspension is taken from the base of the decomposer through an internal tube, with air injected into the bottom of it, is raised to the level of the top of the decomposer and is then sent downstream.

Each of these stirrer tanks of the product cascade has three vertically spaced zones with differing solid contents, a central vertical shaft and at least three vertically spaced paddles carried on the shaft and each extending into a respective one of the zones. The paddles are so constructed as to differently act on the solid in dependence upon the solid contents in each zone.

    摘要: Apparatus for stirring and transporting slurries in vessels of great volume used, for example, in the alumina industry. The apparatus of the invention is adapted to replace, with greater economic efficiency, the generally previously-used pneumatic system for the stirring and transportation of slurries. The present apparatus uses a tube centrally placed in the vessel; a turbine pump driven, for example, by an electric motor, is mounted in the tube. The turbine pump raises the slurry to the level of some apertures or windows in the tube. The thus-raised slurry overflows through the windows to fall partly into the same vessel and partly into a conduit for transportation out of such vessel. The conduit has windows through which the level of the slurry is maintained constant in the vessel. The device provides an intensive stirring and the transportation of the slurry independent of the volume of the vessel and independent of the density of the slurry, with a much lower power consumption as compared to pneumatic stirring. Such intensive stirring eliminates the encrustation on the bottom of the vessels and on the side walls of the receiver. The system of the invention also ensures the perfect vertical homogenization of the slurry, eliminating at the same time foaming and the eventual chemical reactions between the components of the slurry and those of air, and the consequent breaking down of the solid phase of the slurry.

    摘要: A process for the continuous crystallization of at least one crystallizable material from a solution wherein a series of crystallization stages are utilized, with partial crystallization taking place in each stage. The process includes the classification of partially crystallized suspension between each stage, and the suspension from the final stage is passed to a separator wherein it is separated into a concentrated suspension containing crystals and a spent liquor, the concentrated suspension being returned to the final stage and the spent liquor being discharged. Product crystals are taken from the first stage of the series. Partially grown crystals are circulated between consecutive crystallization stages in the series such that a stream of partially crystallized suspension, after being classified to separate the coarse fraction, is passed from one stage to the next stage in the series; whereas a stream of return suspension is passed in countercurrent fashion from the next stage to the preceding one stage without classification. Coarse crystals are taken from the first stage through an elutriation column (hydraulic classification tube) in countercurrent flow to the incoming feed.
