Abstract: A full continuous synthesis method of metronidazole is provided. An aqueous glyoxal solution, an aqueous acetaldehyde solution and aqueous ammonia are mixed and reacted to produce a 2-methylimidazole-containing reaction mixture, which is mixed with a nitric acid solution and then reacted in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid to obtain a 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole-containing reaction mixture. The 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole-containing reaction mixture is divided by a splitter, such that one part is used to replace concentrated sulfuric acid, and the other part is mixed with formic acid, and undergoes a ring-opening reaction with ethylene oxide to obtain a metronidazole solution. The metronidazole solution is adjusted to pH 2-6 and filtered to obtain a filtrate, which is adjusted to pH 8-14 and filtered to obtain a crude product. The crude product is subjected to decoloring, crystallization, filtration and drying to obtain pure metronidazole with a purity greater than 99.9%.

Abstract: A baffle (i.e., tube support) for use in a shell-and-tube heat exchange reactor, such as, for example, an ethylene oxide (EO) reactor, is provided that accommodates reduced tube pitch, and thus more catalyst packed tubes can be inside the reactor. The baffle, which can be referred to herein as a corrugated grid support, includes a plurality of corrugated stainless steel strips which sit into each other and form a grid pattern having tube openings. Each tube opening is configured to permit a catalyst packed tube to be inserted therein, while allowing a sufficient open area along the shell side of the tube to permit coolant to flow through the reactor.

Abstract: The present invention provides low profile, thick (“stuby”) longitudinal fins having a cross section which is a parallelogram, trapezoid or a triangle extending from 10% to 100% of a coil pass and comprising from 3 to 45 weight % of a coil in a radiant section of a furnace for thermally cracking one or more of paraffins and naphtha. The fins provide an additional surface through which heat may be transferred to the coil making the coil more efficient reducing greenhouse emissions.

Abstract: A method and device for lightening heavy oil by utilizing a suspension-bed hydrogenation process are provided. In the process, a part of a raw oil is mixed with a suspension-bed hydrocracking catalyst to form a first mixture, then the first mixture is subjected to first shear and second shear in sequence so as to realize high dispersion and mixing of the catalyst and the raw oil; through pretreatment of the raw oil, the device can prevent the raw oil from coking in the hydrogenation process; through the adoption of a suspension-bed reactor with a liquid phase self-circulation function or a cold-wall function; and light and heavy components are separated from the suspension-bed hydrogenated product in advance and only medium component is subjected to fixed-bed hydrogenation, thereby reducing the load of the fixed-bed hydrogenation, prolonging the service life of the fixed-bed catalyst, improving the yield and quality of gasoline and diesel, and being beneficial for energy conservation and emission reduction of the whole system.
