摘要: A sewage sludge silo is provided, having a central discharge arm for discharging sludge via a central discharge opening, by means of the discharge arm sweeping across a preferably sloped silo floor, with the discharge arm having upper and lower ends, with the lower end extending forward of the upper end in transverse generally vertical cross-section, as the discharge arm moves in a forward direction across the silo floor. The silo floor can be of multi-layer construction, with one of the layers being molded to facilitate a sloped configuration for the silo floor. The movement of a silo discharge arm can be computer controlled to adjust the speed of the discharge arm to maintain a predetermined or substantially constant rate of discharge of sludge from the silo, with such control being facilitated by appropriate sensor mechanisms.

摘要: This application relates to improvements to long vertical shaft bioreactors for the aerobic biological treatment of wastewater and aerobic digestion of biodegradable sludges. The invention comprises a flow control device and method which improves hydraulic flow, inter-zonal mixing and gas transfer in such bioreactors. The flow control device includes a ported upper plate which is mounted in an upflow chamber of the bioreactor and a lower plate located below the upper plate at the juncture between mix and plug flow zones of the bioreactor which are in fluid communication. At least some of the ports in the upper plate are fitted with adjustable valves for regulating the flow of liquor therethrough and hence the size of a hydraulic head loss imposed by the flow control device. Preferably the upper plate is mounted at a location in the upflow chamber upstream from the inlet where influent is discharged into the bioreactor. The flow control device reduces the circulation velocity of the liquor in an upper circulating zone of the bioreactor and also provides a physical barrier substantially restricting inter-zonal mixing between the mix and plug flow zones.

摘要: A method and apparatus for dissolving an gas into a fluid which may contain at least one dissolved gas. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a first vertically oriented tube defining a first inner space therein and having open upper and bottom ends. The apparatus also includes a second vertically oriented tube of diameter larger than the first tube and concentrically oriented about the first tube. The space between the first and second tubes is referred to as the second inner space. For introduction of the gas, the apparatus includes an inlet into the second inner space. The appartus includes an acceleration device for accelerating the flow of fluid through the second inner space. The acceleration device is placed above the bubble swarm. Further, the apparatus includes a helix-shaped bubble harvester located below the bubble swarm. The harvester removes fugitive (undissolved) bubbles from the fluid flow and returns them to the bubble swarm to increase the probability that those bubbles will be dissolved into the fluid. During operation, fluid is accelerated downward through the second inner space to maintain two phase flow in the bubble swarm. The harvester removes fugitive bubbles from the fluid leaving the bubble swarm and returns them to the bubble swarm to enhance the absorption rate and efficiency. In another embodiment of the invention, at least one gas initially dissolved into the fluid and then stripped by the reduced partial pressure in the bubble swarm is allowed to leave the apparatus through a vent. The present invention operates with hydrostatic pressure applications and in applications using externally supplied oxygen. It is inexpensive to produce, install, operate and maintain, while being capable of producing a significant amount of dissolved gas with a high absorption efficiency and low energy consumption. The apparatus and method are also suitable for a multitude of applications.

摘要: Improved gas distribution and mixing is achieved in a gas/liquid mixing basin particularly for aerobic or anaerobic sewage digesters. In addition to a draft tube positioned generally centrally in the aeration or anaerobic basin and served by one or more gas-releasing diffusers, the system of the invention includes peripheral draft tubes surrounding the central draft tube, each tube having at least one gas diffuser within. The circulation of liquid and gas bubbles from the larger, central draft tube is supplemented by circulation from the peripheral draft tubes. In particular, "dead areas" or less active areas of the liquid, which are not sufficiently reached by gas-mixing from a single draft tube in many basin configurations, are reached by circulation from the peripheral draft tubes and such dead areas are virtually eliminated. As a result, power requirements can be reduced when compared to double throw or single drop systems, thus increasing overall system efficiency while achieving the desired level of liquid aeration or gas dispersion. In addition, the inclusion of the peripheral draft tubes allows versatility in achieving the desired degree of mixing in a wide range of different basin configurations.

摘要: A method of dissolving a gas in water comprising directing an aqueous stream to rotate in a downwardly moving spiral stream from a high downward velocity to a lower downward velocity and diffusing a gas into the aqueous stream so as to produce small gas bubbles which are rotated in a generally spiral path by the aqueous stream thereby providing a long flow distance over which the bubbles have increased contact time with the aqueous stream to facilitate dissolution of the gas therein and in which rising of the gas bubbles is progressively opposed by the increased downward velocity of the higher portion of the aqueous stream.A vessel for practicing the method can have a vertical axis and be circular in horizontal section for most of its height; have upper and lower ends; include a conical portion with the apex at the upper end of the vessel; have an aqueous stream inlet tangential to the vessel communicating with the vessel interior space near the vessel upper end so that an aqueous stream fed to the vessel through the inlet rotates in a downwardly moving spiral stream from a high downward velocity in the upper portion of the vessel to a lower downward velocity in the lower portion of the vessel; and have a gas diffuser for diffusing a gas into the aqueous stream.
