A method for industrial refining of coal ash created in power plants and carbonaceous ashes produced in other combustion processes by separating coal from said ashes and returning it to use and by recovering a substantially coal-free ash fraction obtained in the refining. In the method, coal ash and at least one ash fraction created by gasification technique in combustion plants are carefully proportioned in relation to one another and formed into a slurry mixture by means of an efficient dispersion technique, the slurry being then led to a flotation step, where a fraction rich in coal and a siliceous fraction poor in coal and a fraction dissolving in the process water are separated by flotation. The coal ash is arranged to have the highest proportion in the mixture to be taken to flotation, the ashes from combustion plants being dosed into said mixture in an amount that does not cause the maximum amounts of harmful substances to be exceeded in the qualities of the carbonaceous product and the silicate product poor in coal to be obtained.

In a chlorine bypass facility 1 extracting a part G of combustion gas, while cooling it, from a kiln exhaust gas passage, which runs from an inlet end of a cement kiln to a bottom cyclone, and recovering a high chlorine concentration chlorine bypass dust D5 from the extracted gas G1, a slurry S containing chlorine bypass dust and SO2 gas or/and CO2 gas are contacted with each other to obtain solid content. The slurry containing chlorine bypass dust and an exhaust gas from the chlorine bypass facility or/and the exhaust gas from the cement kiln can be contacted with each other, and the solid content can be fed to a cement finishing process, which allows cement with low CaO and Ca(OH)2 contents and with stable property such as setting time to be produced.

To produce cement clinker by baking of raw meal in a kiln, use is conventionally made of a raw meal preheater in which the heat of the flue gas emerging from the kiln is transferred to the raw meal. In order to remove impurities which accumulate in circulation between the kiln and the raw meal preheater, a part of the flue gas is extracted from the kiln, bypassing the raw meal preheater. The heat generated during the baking of cement clinker can be used particularly efficiently if the flue gases extracted and diverted past the raw meal pre-heater are used in a boiler to generate hot steam which can subsequently be expanded in a turbine.

The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for treating a chlorine-containing waste, which can separate and recover a chlorine component from a chlorine-containing waste, and also can achieve a high chlorine removal thereby obtaining a high purity chlorine compound, and can decrease the amount of water for recovering chlorine. The method for treating a chlorine-containing waste of the present invention comprises a washing/filtrating step of adding water to the chlorine-containing waste, followed by mixing to form a first slurry, separating the first slurry into a solid and a filtrate through filtration, and using the resulting solid as a cement raw material; a filtrate treating step of adding a reducing agent and a pH adjustor to the filtrate to form a sediment containing heavy metal and calcium contained in the filtrate, and separating the sediment through filtration; a crystallization step of concentrating the filtrate, from which the sediment has been removed, through heating and evaporation to form a second slurry in which a chlorine compound contained in the filtrate has been crystallized, separating the second slurry into a solid containing a chlorine compound and a mother liquor, and recovering the solid; and a separated mother liquor treating step of returning a portion of the mother liquor to a cement manufacturing facility.

This invention provides a system for simultaneously scrubbing acidic exhaust gases and removing alkali and alkaline earth metal salts from waste dust from a cement plant or the like thereby producing useful products from what would otherwise be wasted. In essence the two wastes are combined in water and the resulting solution and precipitate separated in a tank. The solution is useful both to cool incoming waste gas and as a fertilizer, while the precipitate is suitable as kiln feed stock.
