摘要: Compounds are described which are derivatives of essential oils, functionalized in order to improve their antibacterial, antiprotozoal and antiviral activity, reduce their volatility and modify their solubility in certain solvents, particularly water. Additionally, also the palatability has been significantly improved with respect to the starting essential oils. These compounds are designed 5 to be used as food ingredients in food products for nutritional purposes and extra-nutritional (as prebiotics) purposes, in both human and animal feed industries, even if these compounds can be successfully used also in cosmetics, detergents and for the control of the microbial load in general.

摘要: A process for recovering oil from an oil-bearing formation comprises introducing into said formation an aqueous composition comprising at least one sulfonated derivative of one or more internal olefins, said internal olefins being characterized by having low amounts of tri-substitution on the olefin bond, said sulfonated derivative being obtained by sulfonating a composition comprising internal olefins of the formula: R1R2C═CR3R4 wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and are hydrogen or straight- or branched-chain, saturated hydrocarbyl groups and the total number of carbon atoms of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is 6 to 44 with the proviso that at least about 96 mole percent of R1 and R3 are straight- or branched-chain, saturated hydrocarbyl groups and at least about 96 mole percent of R2 and R4 are hydrogen. Further provided are compositions for use in recovering oil from an oil bearing formation.

摘要: A technique for sulfonating petroleum oil feed stocks which materially increases the extent of reaction between the sulfonatable components present in the feed stock and sulfur trioxide, and yields an improved sulfonated product. The invention provides a method which includes forming a liquid mixture of a petroleum oil feed stock and an organic additive, feeding such mixture to a reaction zone, and contacting the mixure with a reactable sulfur trioxide material. The additive appears to promote continuity of materials during the reaction in such a way that substantially homogeneous product compositions are obtained. The invention also includes the so-attained reaction products. Methods of neutralizing, digesting, purifying and other treatments to improve product utility are taught.

摘要: Superior ashless additives for lubricants are prepared by a process comprising first introducing a petroleum sulfonic acid and a polyamine to a reaction zone and subsequently introducing a cyclic anhydride of a dicarboxylic acid into the reaction zone. In another embodiment, the solids content of the additives is reduced to acceptable levels by removal of free SO.sub.2 from the petroleum sulfonic acid prior to preparing the additive. Lubricating oil compositions containing these ashless additives are also provided.

摘要: Petroleum sulfonates useful to impart micellar characteristics to mixtures of hydrocarbon and aqueous medium are obtained by reacting a hydrocarbon gas oil feedstock (average molecular weight 250-700; A/AP aliphatic to aromatic proton) ratio 5-50 moles/mole, 30-100% of the feedstock molecules contain aromatic portions and the A/AP ratio of the aromatic portion being about 3-20 moles/mole) with a solution of EDC (ethylene dichloride) containing 0.1-0.3 lb. liquid SO.sub.3 /lb EDC. The SO.sub.3 concentration is about 0.1-0.3 lb. of SO.sub.3 /lb of gas oil feedstock. Reaction takes place in a back-mix tubular reactor wherein at least about 4 parts of reaction products are recycled per 1 part of reaction products withdrawn and wherein the gas oil feedstock plus recycled reaction products and the SO.sub.3 /EDC streams entering the reaction zone are in turbulent flow. Velocity ratio of the feedstock plus recycled reaction products stream to the SO.sub.3 /EDC stream is at least 4:1, respectively. The withdrawn reaction products are neutralized with an aqueous basic liquid, e.g. aqueous solution, NH.sub.4 OH and thereafter the EDC is recovered from the neutralized reaction products to obtain unextracted sulfonate mix. The unextracted sulfonate mix is extracted with an aqueous alcohol solution to obtain a raffinate phase, an extract phase, and a brine phase; the extract phase is withdrawn and stripped of alcohol and water to obtain the desired petroleum sulfonate.

摘要: A by-product of the production of mahogany petroleum sulfonate is a filter cake comprising calcium mahogany sulfonate, lime in various forms, and a filter aid such as diatomaceous earth, generally containing about half its weight of mahogany sulfonate. This by-product is generally discarded. The invention provides a method for the economical recovery of the mahogany sulfonate by a process involving the addition of water and a strong acid having a soluble calcium salt, which permits stratification to take place. The so-formed slurry is subjected to the action of gravity as by standing or passing through a centrifuge or a hydrocyclone, which permits the calcium mahogany sulfonate to be recovered, and if desired, to be subsequently purified.
