摘要: A device (10), for moving a runner (12) of a shaft furnace between an upper tapping floor level (42), where the runner is in an operational position in front of a taphole of the furnace, and a lower service level (40), where the runner is accessible for replacement. The device (10) comprises a first support (28) and a second support (34) forming a base member (38), a carrier member (20) for bearing the runner, the carrier member having a first and a second longitudinal portion, a first lifting member (22) connected via a first articulation (26) to the first longitudinal portion and via a second articulation (30) to the first support, and a second lifting member (24) connected via a third articulation (32) to the second longitudinal portion and via a fourth articulation (36) to the second support. The base member (38), the carrier member (20) and the first and second lifting members (22, 24) together with the four articulations (26, 30, 32, 36) form a four-bar equivalent mechanism. According to the invention, the device further comprises a traction link (90) connected via a fifth articulation (92) to the first lifting member (22) and via a sixth articulation (94) to the second lifting member (24). The axes of rotation of the fifth and sixth articulations (92, 94) remain above the plane defined by the axes of rotation of the second and fourth articulations (30, 36) when the carrier member (20) is in a lower position reached by approaching, taking or traversing a change point configuration.

摘要: At present, the discharge of slag and/or matte from smelting furnaces is being carried out manually. One of the major disadvantages of all the activities associated to the slag and/or matte discharge is the fact the personnel is exposed to harsh environmental conditions. In the medium and long term, this could generate serious occupational diseases to the operators in charge of carrying out the discharge. Due to the above, a robot system and/or method have been developed for the discharge of slag and/or matte from the smelting furnaces which include: a flash furnace, teniente converter, pierce smith converter, reverbatory furnace, electrical furnace, blast furnace among others. The robot system and method is composed mainly of an anthropomorphous robotic manipulator of at least 5 degrees of freedom and a gripping mechanism to take several tools for tapping and punching the smelting furnace, taking samples from channels and cleaning the smelting furnace channels. In this regard, most of the problems associated to the safety of the personnel and the productivity of the manual and/or mechanical process are eliminated.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for efficient utilization of a cryogen in inerting of solid and molten metals are presented. One method and apparatus of the invention includes providing a source of liquid cryogen; transporting the liquid cryogen through a conduit connected to the source of liquid cryogen to a gas/liquid separator, wherein a portion of the liquid cryogen transforms into gaseous cryogen en route; transporting a portion of the liquid cryogen through a first conduit connecting the gas/liquid separator to a cryogen supply nozzle; transporting the gaseous cryogen through a second conduit connecting the gas/liquid separator to a cryogen supply nozzle; and flowing at least a portion of liquid cryogen and at least a portion of the gaseous cryogen through the cryogen nozzle separately and near a surface of solid or molten metal. Thus liquid that transforms into gaseous cryogen en route from storage is not vented and not wasted, but used in inerting of solid or molten metals.

摘要: An adjustable form used for forming or repairing a refractory lining includes an adjustable frame constructed from a plurality of intersecting beams, at least some of which are adjustable, and a form connected to the adjustable frame. The frame can be adjusted in at least one direction and, preferably, in more than one direction. By properly adjusting the frame, the adjustable form can be used to form a refractory lining in different metal containment devices varying in dimensions, and can also be used to repair existing refractory linings. The adjustable form is inserted into a metal containment device at a distance from the floor and walls of the metal containment device, and refractory material is poured into the space between the adjustable form and the metal containment device.
