The invention relates to a method for reducing CO2 emissions in the operation of a metallurgical plant which comprises at least one blast furnace for producing crude iron and a converter steel mill for producing crude steel. According to the invention, at least a partial amount of the blast-furnace top gas that occurs in the blast furnace in the production of crude iron and/or a partial amount of the converter gas that occurs in the production of crude steel is taken for producing syngas that is used for producing chemical products. At the same time, the energy demand of the metallurgical plant is at least partly covered by using electricity that is obtained from renewable energy.

The gas delivery duct assembly includes a single gas delivery main connected to the gas injection lances to supply oxygen-containing gas to the gas injection lances. The gas delivery main is located at a height above a lower half of the vessel.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a method of compacting a powdery mixture of electric furnace dust and a carbonaceous material into a briquette and subjecting the briquette to a thermal reduction treatment in a rotary hearth furnace, the method being capable of ensuring a strength of the briquette resistant to a handling in a course after the compacting through until it is set in the rotary hearth furnace, and reducing energy necessary for drying of the briquette while preventing bursting thereof in the rotary hearth furnace. The flue gas collecting in the metallurgical vessel is sucked out of the vessel as a main gas flow and cleaned in a gas cleaning system. The flow of cleaned gas is guided to an after-burning device. A portion of the clean flue gas is diverted frown the main gas flow leading to the after-burning device. The diverted flow portion is cooled and guided back to the main flow of flue gas where it is mixed with the flue gas before the main flow of flue gas enters the gas cleaning system.

The method for treating the dust entails the following steps:(a) supplying a combination of dust, a reducing agent and flux to a gastight electrothermic smelting furnace,(b) smelting, reducing and volatilizing certain metals in the smelting furnace,(c) tapping of an inert slag phase and a liquid metal phase from the smelting furnace,(d) continuous removal from the smelting furnace of a gas phase containing chiefly CO-gas, metal fumes, sulphur, chlorides and fluorides together with entrained unreacted dust,(e) further treatment of the gas phase.The process produces an inert slag phase which can be safely deposited in a landfill. The process also allows for recovery of valuable metal components from the dust.

A converter pressure control device for use in a converter waste gas disposing device wherein a calculator determines the difference between the pressure in a converter and atmospheric pressure and sets an operating parameter according to the detected difference. A pressure controller generates a control signal in accordance with the operating parameter and the difference in converter pressure and a predetermined value. The control signal is used to operate a damper to control the flow of waste gas through the converter.
