摘要: A stack of copper plates is placed in a melting chamber having a closed roof of refractory material. The stack is placed in a tilted orientation leaning against a side wall of the melting chamber, with lower edges of the copper plates resting on an inclined hearth surface. A door to the melting chamber is closed to block the infiltration of oxygen. A burner is fired into the melting chamber to heat the closed roof of refractory material, and the stack of copper plates is melted under the influence of combustion products from the burner and heat radiated from the closed roof. Molten copper is drained downward from the bottom edge of the inclined hearth surface to avoid immersing the copper plates in a molten bath.

摘要: Molten molybdenum-(copper)-iron-sulfur mattes or alloys, obtained for example, by reacting slags or other molybdenum containing oxide residues or waste materials with an iron and/or sulfide reductant, are enriched in molybdenum and copper (if present) by a pyrometallurgical process. The molten matte or alloy material is oxidized to remove sulfur, as sulfur oxides, while varying amounts of iron are converted to iron oxides which separate from the metallics. The oxidation thus enriches the molybdenum and copper content of the remaining alloy. Silica flux may be added during the reaction process to form a fluid slag with the iron oxide which separates from the remaining molybdenum-iron-(copper) material which constitutes the product.

摘要: A method for obtaining pure copper is provided wherein oxygen is blown onto a copper melt, in a melting furnace lined with refractory material, having a waste heat boiler set onto it, in order to oxidize contaminants contained in the melt and thereby remove them from the melt, and wherein a splash protection device through which water flows is provided above the copper melt, on the inside wall of the melting furnace, which prevents copper that splashes out of the copper melt from penetrating into the waste heat boiler. Boiling water is used for cooling the splash protection device, which water is under a pressure of more than 5 bar and is evaporated, at least in part, as it flows through the splash protection device.
