Abstract:
A gas-permeable, leather-like material is obtained by coating a fibrous base with a heterogeneous mixture of a liquid and two polymers, or by impregnating the base material with the mixture, and thereafter drying the coated or impregnated material until the liquid is removed. The two polymers are a polyamino acid and an elastomer respectively, at least one of the polymers being present in the mixture as a separate, dispersed phase.
Abstract:
A SOLUTION OF POLY-$-METHYL GLUTAMATE IN A CHLORINATED ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBON WHEN MODIFIED BY THE ADDITION OF A URETHANE PREPOLYMER OF A MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF 700 TO 5,000 HAVING TWO TERMINAL ISOCYANATE GROUPS FORMS A DOPE FROM WHICH FILMS AND COATINGS OF MECHANICAL PROPERITIES DESIRABLE IN ARTIFICIAL LEATHER MAY BE PREPARED.
Abstract:
A SOLUTION OF POLY-Y-METHYL GLUTAMATE MODIFIED WITH POLYURETHANE RESIN IN A MIXTURE OF A CHLORINATED ALIPHATIC HYDROCARBON SOLVENT WITH A WATER SOLUBLE ORGANIC SOLVENT FREE FROM ACTIVE HYDROGEN AND HAVING A BOILING POINT HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE CHLORINATED HYDROCARBON IS CAST TO FORM A SOLVATED FILM, THE CHLORINATED HYDROCARBON IS EVAPORATED, AND THE RESULTING GEL IS LEACHED WITH WATER TO REMOVE THE RESIDUAL SOLVENT, LEAVING BEHIND A LEATHER-LIKE FILM OF HIGH WATER VAPOR PERMEABILITY.
Abstract:
THE ARTIFICIAL LEATHER IS COMPOSED OF A WOVEN BASE FABRIC HAVING A NAPPED SIDE, A LAYER OF POLYURETHANE RESIN WHICH HAS BEEN APPLIED TO THE NAPPED SIDE, A LAYER OF A BINDER APPLIED TO THE POLYURETHANE RESIN AND A SURFACE FILM OF A POLY(AMINO ACID) ANCHORED TO THE POLYURETHANE RESIN BY THE BINDER. THE ARTIFICIAL LEATHER RESEMBLES NATURAL LEATHER IN APPEARANCE AND TOUCH, HAS EXCELLENT CHARACTERISTICS OF MOISTURE PERMEABILITY, HEAT RESISTANCE, AND MECHANICAL STRENGTH AND MAY BE USED LIKE NATURAL LEATHER.
Abstract:
Silk processed, coated, repaired, and/or infused faux or bonded leather, or faux or bonded leather articles, and methods of preparing the same are disclosed herein.
Abstract:
Amino acid-urethane copolymers improved in elongation, tensile strength and flexing endurance are prepared by polymerizing a prepolymer having terminal isocyanate groups, obtained by reacting a polyether polyol having hydroxyl groups substantially at the terminals thereof with an organic polyisocyanate in a ratio in equivalent of the organic polyisocyanate to the polyether polyol of 1.6 to 2.5, either with an amino acid-N-carboxylic acid anhydride or with a polyamino acid polymer obtained by polymerizing an amino acid-N-carboxylic acid anhydride.
Abstract:
Synthetic leather-like coating composition containing a major amount of polyglutamic acid- gamma -ester and a minor amount of an acidic amino acid derivative. The amino acid derivative is alkyl or aralkyl or acyl esters such as, for example amino maleic acid, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, Alpha -aminosuberic, Alpha -aminosebacic acid, Beta -methylaspartic acid, Beta hydroxyaspartic acid, Beta -alkoxyaspartic acid, Beta hydroxygulatmic acid, Beta -alkoxyglutamic acid, 2-pyrrolidone5-carboxylic acid and the like, and the alkyl or aralkyl or acyl esters of N,N-dialkyl compounds of said acidic amino acids. The composition is coated on or impregnated into a cloth substrate.
Abstract:
A faux leather biomaterial is disclosed. It may be made from shell seafood waste and coffee grounds with the aim to work as a sustainable alternative instead of prior art faux and animal leathers.
