摘要:
Precut and pre-machined boards, a kit, and methods for constructing prefabricated structures are described. Each board includes at least one grooved notch for in a top or a bottom of the board for forming a cross lap joint. Two such boards can be joined together by interlocking the respective grooved notches forming a cross lap joint. Each grooved notch includes a first shoulder and a second shoulder extending perpendicularly from a cheek. A first groove is disposed on a first side of the board adjacent to the first shoulder and a second groove is disposed on a second side of the board adjacent to the second shoulder. The grooves ensure secure interlocking of the boards at the cross lap joint without requiring glue or fasteners. The grooves also cover gaps in joint inhibiting wind, water and light from penetrating the joint.

A plurality of metalogs form a freestanding wall or fence, or structure comprising walls, upper floors whenever applicable and/or roof of a building. Each metalog has an axis. A stiffener extends through a set of aligned holes in the metalogs at right angles to the axes. One or more additional stiffeners may similarly extend through one or more additional sets of aligned holes in the same metalogs. The stiffeners function to resist forces acting in a direction parallel to the axes of the metalogs and therefore enhance the stability of the structure and obviate otherwise required X-bracing.

A timber structural member includes: a first timber round having a first cooperating longitudinal surface, a second timber round having a second and a third cooperating longitudinal surfaces, and a third timber round having a fourth cooperating longitudinal surface. The first cooperating surface cooperates with the second cooperating surface, and the third cooperating surface cooperates with the fourth cooperating surface. The timber rounds are secured together to form a structurally integral unit in which the first cooperating surface is in contact with the second cooperating surface, and the third cooperating surface is in contact with the fourth cooperating surface, and the first, second and third timber rounds are substantially parallel to each other. The timber rounds are secured to each other by a plurality of spaced fasteners provided at acute and obtuse angles from a longitudinal axis of the structural member and extending through the timber rounds.

A foundation for building superstructures is formed of metalogs that define an aboveground enclosure, a confined first fill that substantially fills the enclosure to a height sufficient to anchor and support the superstructure, and a loose second fill that is placed atop the first fill and leveled and compacted to form a hardpan floor.

A tie bolt assembly for a log building has a coil spring that applies a continuous compressive load to force the logs together. Subsequent expansion or separation of the logs is prevented by a ratchet mechanism acting between the tie bolt and log.

A modular connector element has a hook, a catch, and fittings for connection to an end of a hollow log for assembly into a wall or building superstructure. In assembling three such connector elements in a sequence conforming a corner between two structural walls, the hook of the middle connector element makes a click connection with a catch formed on a second such connector element positioned on one side of the middle connector element, and the catch of the middle connector element makes a click connection with a hook formed on a third such connector element positioned on the side of the middle connector element opposite the second connector element. The connector elements with their respective logs are thus rapidly, securely and manually click-locked together to erect walls and building superstructures.

Techniques for building construction using fabricated timbers. In one example, such timbers are fabricated using conventional 2× (two-by) lumber to produce a square log appearance. These fabricated timbers are stacked to form outside and/or inside walls. The fabricated timbers and walls are configured to sustain desired vertical and lateral loads anticipated of a building such as a cabin, home, garage, barn, office building, or the like. A building constructed using such timbers appears to be built of square logs. Fabricated timber construction, as compared to conventional log or stick-frame construction, provides the appearance of high-quality log construction at a far lower cost, with higher R-values and appraised values, and is also far lower in cost and much simpler than conventional stick-frame construction.

For use in a building having a roof and a wall each formed of hollow logs, wherein the wall has an uppermost horizontal log, a device is provided for connecting the roof to the wall. The device has a connector for connection to an end of a roof log, a saddle for mounting on the wall log and spreading the roof load over a wide area of the wall log, and a plate for securing the connector to the saddle.

A foundation for a building superstructure has a number of hollow foundation tubes laid horizontally on the ground and susceptible to degradation over time by contact with the ground. Each tube is protected by one or both of the following: (1) a reinforcement housed within the tube, shaped conformably to the interior of the tube, and resistant to degradation by contact with the ground; and (2) a membrane surrounding the tube, shaped conformably to the exterior of the tube, and resistant to degradation by contact with the ground. The tubes are arranged to form the footprint of a small building. In completing the building superstructure, other tubes, which need not have the same protection, are stacked on the foundation tubes. Degradation of the foundation tubes over time because of their contact with the ground is rendered inconsequential by the reinforcement or prevented by the membrane.

An elongated timber or lumber member (10) for an elongated, thermally insulating building construction element assembly (20) formed by first and second ones of said elongated timber or lumber member assembled along respective elongated adjoining surfaces (11) facing each other, said elongated timber or lumber member having a first fitting side (13) on a side located opposite to its elongated adjoining surface, said fitting side being spaced from said adjoining surface by timber or lumber of a respective thicknesses, and said fitting side being provided with a tongue or a groove (14A, 14B) to allow a plurality of the elongated, thermally insulating construction element assemblies to be juxtaposed to each other in alignment in a tongue and groove arrangement to form a thermally insulating building surface. The elongated timber or lumber member exhibits an elongated first groove or slot (12) of a first width in its elongated adjoining surface, said first groove extending in a longitudinal direction of said first elongated timber or lumber member over a length exceeding said first width and extending in a direction towards said fitting side of said first elongated timber or lumber member over a depth exceeding one half of said respective thickness, said first groove (12) thereby forming a thermally insulating gap within said building construction element assembly.
