Thin-set mortar that is used to secure the tile to the support plate flows into the recesses and into the openings forming a continuous bond between the mortar, openings and mat layer to provide a strong bond between the support plate, mortar and the tiles.

A modular fluid retention system and method for exemplary uses collecting and temporarily retaining fluids, for example stormwater run-off. One example of the system includes a plurality of modular retaining units which are selectively connected together to form an interior chamber volume for collecting stormwater run-off directed into the chamber volume. A plurality of modular trays are engaged with portions of the respective retention units to prevent relative movement of the retention units and eliminate, or substantially reduce, the need for porous material to be installed in and around the retention units greatly increasing the excavation void space usable for water collection and retention. In an alternate application, only a plurality of modular trays are used as the vertical support and fluid retention volume structure for the fluid retention system.

The modular conduit units may include independent dome-shaped structures including four orthogonally oriented openings and internal chambers. On connection of many conduit units, multiple passageways are created for routing utility lines through the modular structure. Closure panels may be selectively installed to close off the conduit units and passageways for underground storage of fluids or other materials. The modular units are capable of being encased by materials including concrete for underground and concrete floors and walls of commercial buildings.

The invention relates to a steel-concrete hollow bodied slab or ceiling comprising concrete webs, which are arranged in between hollow bodies, and a reinforcing layer on top of the hollow bodies and a reinforcing layer underneath the hollow bodies, wherein a hollow body is embodied as a peripherally closed container which is devoid of any ascending force and which is open towards the bottom, whereby ventilation holes are provided in the covering wall thereof and the container comprises spacers. The aim of the invention is to obtain a low-cost hollow bodied slab/ceiling exhibiting good load-bearing behavior and an increased ability to discharge transversal forces according to local requirements. According to the invention, the concrete in at least one concrete web consists of high-tensile fibers and/or at least one steel strut, preferably a double wall anchor, and/or the hollow body which is devoid of ascendant forces has a conical or truncated pyramidal periphery whose uppermost end forms a dome-shaped arch.

Described in a displacement body for forming cavities in concrete structures. The displacement body lends itself to simple and cost-effective production, is extremely light-weight and still capable of meeting stability requirements. In a preferred embodiment the displacement body consists of a grid structure (1) formed of intersecting longitudinal and transverse rods, and plastic sheets (2a, 2b) applied to both sides of the grid structure and connected to one another and to the grid structure by welding and/or heat-shrinking. Further described are structures formed under employ of such displacement bodies, as well as advantageous methods for making same.
