摘要:
Anti-pollution method and apparatus for increasing combustion efficiency in an internal combustion engine in which a fuel-air vapor is produced in an evaporation chamber, under vacuum, and is fed through a vacuum trap to the internal combustion engine downstream of the carburetor, whereby the cooled fuel-air vapor may be drawn into each combustion chamber prior to each fuel-air charge from the carburetor.

1. A carburetor comprising a vertically elongated casing having an inlet port adjacent but spaced above its lower end and having an outlet port spaced above said inlet port, a series of horizontally elongated vertically spaced baffles in the casing arranged so that adjacent baffles are connected at opposite ends to opposite walls of the casing to form a tortuous passage between the inlet port and outlet port, the lowermost of said baffles being spaced above the inlet port and bottom of the casing to form a mixing chamber, a blower at the inlet port to pass a stream of air through the mixing chamber, a plurality of atomizing nozzles arranged in the mixing chamber above the stream of air being adapted when connected to a source of liquid fuel to discharge said fuel into said stream of air so as to produce an air-fuel mixture, a filter arranged in the passage to remove fuel in liquid form from said mixture, each of said baffles being provided with an aperture adjacent its connected end to permit fuel in liquid form collected thereon to pass therethrough and return to the mixing chamber, a sump arranged below the mixing chamber to receive said liquid fuel, and valve means automatically openable when the liquid fuel in the sump has reached a predetermined level to permit draining of said fuel therefrom.

Apparatus to be employed in conjunction with a conventional carburetor on an internal combustion engine characterized by evaporating and admixing means for effecting vaporization of the liquid fuel and admixing it with at least a portion of the air being supplied to the air intake passageway of the carburetor. Preferably, the evaporating and admixing means is adapted to supply heated air that is substantially saturated with the fuel vapor such that less liquid fuel is supplied by way of the carburetor to have the same response with essentially no loss of power because of the more nearly complete combustion of the gaseous fuel. The evaporating and admixing means is characterized by: air intake passageway; a fuel chamber having a liquid fuel supply and reservoir and a spray nozzle means that sprays liquid fuel across the air passageway; and a mixture conduit to the carburetor. The apparatus may be employed on new cars or may be sold as a kit for installation on pre-existing cars. It also may be used on other internal combustion engines and lowers emission, reduces carburetor icing, allows better performance, better starting and obtains better mileage with less pollution. Also disclosed are specific and preferred structural embodiments.

A fuel system (10,10') including apparatus (12) for gasifying volatile liquid fuels by introducing dried air and a volatile liquid fuel into a round mixing chamber (46) for circular flow and mixing. Liquid fuel that flows downwardly to a lower extremity (48) of the mixing chamber is removed through a liquid outlet (56). A gas mixture of air and fuel at an upper extremity (50) of the mixing chamber is delivered through a gas outlet (60) for combustion by an internal combustion engine.

The fuel economy of an internal combustion engine having a fuel tank from which fuel is supplied to a carburetor for controlled delivery to the engine may be improved by vaporizing and pressurizing the fuel before it reaches the carburetor. A fuel vaporization system includes a vapor tank for containing pressurized, vaporized fuel. The fuel is vaporized with a nozzle through which the fuel is sprayed into the vapor tank under high pressure. A high pressure pump is used to pump fuel from the fuel tank and force the fuel through the nozzle under high pressure. A fuel delivery line is provided for delivering pressurized, vaporized fuel from the vapor tank to the carburetor.

A fuel economy system for an internal combustion engine which, when installed in a motor vehicle, obviates the need for a conventional carburetor, fuel pump and gasoline tank. The system operates by using the engine vacuum to draw fuel vapors from a vapor tank through a vapor conduit to a vapor equalizer which is positioned directly over the intake manifold of the engine. The vapor tank is constructed of heavy duty steel or the like to withstand the large vacuum pressure and includes an air inlet valve coupled for control to the accelerator pedal. The vapor equalizer ensures distribution of the correct mixture of air and vapor to the cylinders of the engine for combustion, and also includes its own air inlet valve coupled for control to the accelerator pedal. The system utilizes vapor-retarding filters in the vapor conduit, vapor tank and vapor equalizer to deliver the correct vapor/air mixture for proper operation. The vapor tank and fuel contained therein are heated by running the engine coolant through a conduit within the tank. Due to the extremely lean fuel mixtures used by the present invention, gas mileage in excess of one hundred miles per gallon may be achieved.

Carburetors for attaching to fuel-burning engines are described. The carburetors generate improved engine efficiency and reduced engine emissions by improving combustion of fuel. The carburetors include a plurality of nebulizers, each of which nebulizes a thin film of fuel covering a vibrating plate. The vibrating plate vibrates at a high frequency, and this vibration ejects a fog or mist of fuel particles into an air/fuel mixture channel that passes above the nebulizers in series. Air is drawn into the air/fuel mixture channel, passes over each of the plurality of nebulizers in turn, and then passes to a nebulized fuel outlet within a Venturi narrowing of a main channel of the carburetors. The Venturi narrowing provides a reduced air pressure area that performs the function of drawing the air through the air/fuel mixture channel over the nebulizers, thus drawing out the mixed air and nebulized fuel.
摘要:
A fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine wherein liquid fuel, as from an automobile gas tank, is supplied to a vapor chamber to maintain a predetermined liquid fuel level in the base of said chamber and in such chamber is transformed into vapor and eventually fed to the engine's intake manifold. Ambient air is admitted to the vapor chamber by an adjustable inlet valve and as the air is drawn through the chamber on its way to the engine it entrains the fuel vapors in the desired fuel-air mixture. The vaporizing of the liquid is increased by an absorbent splash assembly so supported in the vapor chamber that at least a part of such assembly normally engages the liquid fuel.
