    摘要: A hybrid piston engine-pulsed detonation engine structure is provided for obtaining shaft power from a pulsed detonation engine wherein a piston engine operatively connected to a PDE. A deflagration to detonation transition is used to achieve detonations. The piston engine has a piston that is located in the deflagration region of the deflagration to detonation transition. The hybrid engine has a critical starting frequency, above which the engine will self-actuate and produce excess power.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for converting a fuel injected internal combustion engine normally operated with a conventional fuel such as gasoline to operate with an alternative fuel are disclosed. The apparatus comprises an alternative fuel introduction assembly having at least one alternative fuel injector, a temperature sensor, and an electronic translator. The electronic translator is adapted to receive conventional fuel injector control signals generated by an electronic control module, and to receive an output signal from the temperature sensor. The electronic translator then calculates an alternative fuel injector control signal to facilitate the supply of a required energy amount of the alternative fuel. The calculation is based upon the energy content of the alternative fuel, the temperature of the alternative fuel, and the flow and operating characteristics of the alternative fuel injector relative to a conventional fuel injector. Preferably, the alternative fuel is natural gas.

    摘要: A method of detecting leakage through a gaseous fuel admission valve of a dual fuel engine including at least one such gaseous fuel admission valve and a gaseous fuel shut off valve includes determining a liquid fuel rate when the engine is operating in a liquid fuel mode and the gaseous fuel shut off valve is closed. The gaseous fuel shut off valve is thereafter opened while the engine is operating in the liquid fuel mode. A liquid fuel rate is determined after the gaseous fuel shut off valve is opened and the liquid fuel rate determined before opening of the gaseous fuel shut off valve is compared with the liquid fuel rate determined after opening of the gaseous fuel shut off valve. A detonation level within the engine cylinder may also be checked to determine if such detonation level exceeds a predetermined level indicative of gaseous fuel leakage. The detonation level check may also be utilized in a spark-ignited engine.

The cylinder head mounting holes and the valve stem guide openings for the breathing valves 4, 4a are the same for the series of engines. The cylinder head 2 is designed for the internal combustion engine of the series having the largest cylinder, wherein the valve disks 6 extend into the cylinder peripheral region of the part of the cylinder head 2 cooperating with the cylinder in forming the combustion chamber. When the cylinder head 2 is used for a small bore diameter engine of the series, the cylinder head is equipped with valve seat inserts 7a having a small diameter valve seating face and the valves have a corresponding smaller diameter complimentary seating face.
