摘要： A drum brake dust shield is provided for a vehicle braking system having a drum brake assembly. The dust shield comprises a first semicircular portion lying in a generally flat plane, and a second semicircular portion lying in the same plane as the first portion to form an annular disc. A dividing slit is defined between the first and second portions. The dust shield further comprises a hinge portion interconnecting the first and second portions. The hinge portion has a stress-relief slit that transversely intersects the dividing slit such that mechanical stresses between the first and second portions are distributed and dispersed over a relatively larger surface area when the first and second portions are spread apart along the dividing slit in opposite directions relative to each other to install the dust shield on the drum brake assembly.

This annular channel serves to collect and drain water or water droplets entering into the brake disk, so that this liquid is drained over a gap between the outer friction ring and a shielding plate. Furthermore, the air guide channel is designed as a separate, water-draining channel in the brake disk.

The brake cover comprises a circular plate having a front surface, a back surface, a perimeter, a centrally located axle hole, and a plurality of lug holes surrounding the axle hole, and a sidewall integrally formed along the perimeter of the circular plate and projecting from the circular plate at a selected angle relative to a plane defined by the circular plate. The process comprises mounting the brake cover on a hub and an axle of the vehicle, the brake cover being designed to cover the brake components, mounting a wheel on the hub and axle of the vehicle, such that the brake cover is sandwiched between the wheel and the hub, and securing the wheel onto the hub.

摘要： A two-piece stamped caliper adapter includes a cast iron anchor and a stamped steel adapter plate. The stamped adapter plate includes reinforcement ribs for providing structural rigidity and stiffness to withstand the loads imposed by a vehicle wheel brake system. A stamped caliper adapter makes a redundant drum brake assembly more readily adaptable to most vehicles and provides other cost-saving economies. In the preferred embodiment, the cast iron anchor and the stamped steel adapter plate are bolted together and the stamped steel adapter plate is spot welded to a drum brake assembly backing plate.

摘要： A drum brake for a motor vehicle includes a backing plate secured to a nonrotatable portion of the motor vehicle. The backing plate mounts a hydraulic actuator which, in turn, carries a pair of brake shoes. The backing plate includes a first portion that attaches to the nonrotatable portion of the motor vehicle and a second portion that extends radially from the first portion. The second portion includes an opening and the hydraulic actuator extends into the opening for mounting the same on the second portion. The pair of brake shoes define a space therebetween and the backing plate is radially disposed substantially within the space. A shield engages the backing plate and extends radially past the pair of brake shoes to engage the pair of brake shoes in order to guide the radial expansion of the latter during braking.
