摘要: Apparatus and related method for coupling adjacent pipe lengths, for example, a drop pipe assembly that utilize an intermediate coupling member to prevent rotational disengagement of adjacent pipe lengths under the influence of rotational torque. The coupling member can comprise an internal key feature that physically engages a keyed end on at least one end of a length of pipe. The internal key feature can include key members located on each coupling end of the coupling member such that the key members engage corresponding keyed ends of adjacent lengths of pipe such that the coupling member prevents rotation of the adjacent pipe length relative to each other.

摘要: This invention builds up on technical features and on the industry experience with the use of Merlin™ family connectors. In addition to friction, structural means utilized to transfer high torsional loads include shear pins and may also include: interlocked thread systems, dog-clutch teeth, keys and splines, all used in isolation or in arbitrary combinations. Static and fatigue bending load capacities of the connectors remain high, while the axial load capacities may or may not be high, depending on the design requirements. Connectors according to this invention can be built as new, carefully optimized designs. In some cases upgrading existing Merlin™ family connector designs to increase they torque transfer capacities may be also feasible.

摘要: A connection includes a first tubular member having a first screw threadform defined by a first plurality of crests, roots, and flanks, where each flank separates each crest from each root. The connection also includes a second tubular member having a second screw threadform defined by a second plurality of crests, roots, and flanks, where each flank separates each crest from each root. The crests and roots are substantially axial to the tubular members and the flanks are substantially radial to the tubular members. The first tubular member and the second tubular member are configured to connect when the first threadform engages with the second threadform. Thread compound relief spaces are formed between the first plurality of crests and the second plurality of roots when the first and second tubular members connect.

摘要: In accordance with presently disclosed embodiments, a system and method for rotationally orienting two wellbore tool components on a tool string relative to each other is provided. The system may include an alignment sub that is simple to operate and allows for quick adjustments to the relative orientations of downhole tool components. The disclosed alignment sub may include a first tubular component on one side and a second tubular component on the other side, and these tubular components are coupled together. The disclosed alignment sub utilizes an axially deformable and variable length sleeve attached to the first tubular component and adjacent to a tip of the second tubular component. The sleeve may provide an appropriate standoff distance between the opposing tubular components while enabling the components to be rotated relative to each other up to at least one full rotation about an axis of the alignment sub.

摘要: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for coupling components within a downhole motor drivetrain, and particularly to improving the torque carrying characteristics through threaded couplings in the drivetrain that extends between the mud motor and the drill bit. The described downhole motor drivetrain includes one or more threaded couplings, with each coupling configured to define a gap to accept a spacer having a dimension within a range of sizes. The dimension of the selected spacer placed in the threaded coupling facilitates establishing a desired balance of the force loading at each of two contact regions of the coupling. In many examples, the two contact regions of the coupling will be located on opposite sides of the threaded region.

The coupling ring is resiliently deformable in a radial direction mounted around the tubular member, in proximity of the end shoulder or flange thereof, such as to be prevented by the end shoulder or flange from being moved away from the tubular member, but to be allowed to freely rotate around the tubular member.

摘要: A fitting includes first and second threaded fitting components, a conduit gripping device, and a stroke resisting member having a first axial length, the stroke resisting member being disposed between a threaded portion of the first fitting component and a radially extending portion of the second fitting component. The stroke resisting member is axially engaged by the radially extending portion of the second fitting component when the first and second fitting components are joined together to a first relative axial position, such that a tightening torque beyond the first relative axial position is increased by the axial engagement. The stroke resisting member is plastically compressed to a second axial length smaller than the first axial length when the first and second fitting components are joined together to a second relative axial position advanced beyond the first relative axial position.

摘要: A method and system certifies a joint between a first threaded element having a first shoulder and a second threaded element having a second shoulder and the equipment used to tighten the connection. The method tightens to a first position at which the first shoulder abuts the second shoulder. Marks are made that are aligned across the first element and the second element corresponding to the first position. The connection is loosened and then tightened to a second position complying with a predetermined tightening specification. The distance beyond the marks for the first position is measured to verify that it is within acceptable tolerances. If acceptable the connection and/or the tightening equipment can be certified.
