A system for extracting oxygen from a fluid includes a separator allowing a fluid to pass lengthwise through the separator to produce a mixture with the fluid having at least a portion of oxygen removed from the fluid. The separator includes a wall surrounding an interior portion of a tube. The wall has at least one aperture formed in the wall. The separator also includes at least one magnet positioned adjacently to the at least one aperture. The magnet has a north pole end and a south pole end. A magnetic field gradient is formed between the north pole end and the south pole end, and extends into an interior portion of the tube. The system also includes a storage tank fluidly coupled to the at least one aperture for storing the at least a portion of the oxygen removed from the fluid via the separator.

The object of the present invention is to provide a different solution for revamping existing producing apparatuses so as to increase the production of low pressure pure nitrogen while controlling as far as possible the capital and operation expenditures. The revamping solution comprises increasing the diameter and/or height of a pure nitrogen column to thereby improve the production capacity thereof; choosing to switch the conduits where the waste liquid nitrogen and pure liquid nitrogen are passed through in the subcooler according to the increment of the low pressure pure nitrogen production; adding an additional heat exchanger to conduct a heat exchange between a portion of the medium pressure air and the increased low pressure pure nitrogen; or simultaneously switching the main parts of the conduits which transfer the pure liquid nitrogen and waste liquid nitrogen from a first column of higher pressure to a second column of lower pressure while performing the above revamping. The stepwise revamping solution of the present invention can be used not only to control the cost but also increase the low pressure pure nitrogen production while ensuring a stable operation of the air separation unit.

A recycle branch is connected to the booster compressor branch to allow compressed air to be independently recycled from the outlet to the inlet of the booster compressor during turndown from the high to the low liquid mode of liquid production to prevent surge.

A compression train system and method for compressing air for an air separation unit is provided. The system includes at least one initial air compressor configured to receive and compress a flow of ambient pressure air and driven by a variable speed motor. The system further includes a plurality of downstream compressors or compression turbo-machines disposed in a series arrangement with the at least one initial compression stage. The desired flow rates to the compression system is controlled by adjusting the speed of the variable speed motor and the position of inlet guide vanes to increase or decrease the flow rate of the ambient pressure air and keep the speed of the variable speed motor above or below a restricted speed zone.

Separation method and apparatus for separating a gaseous mixture, for example, air, in a cryogenic rectification plant in which a compressed stream is divided into subsidiary streams that are extracted from a main heat exchanger of the plant at higher and lower temperatures. The two streams are then combined and expanded in a turboexpander to generate refrigeration for the plant. The flow rates of the two streams are adjusted to control inlet temperature of a turboexpander supplying plant refrigeration and to minimize potential deviation of the turboexpander exhaust from a saturated vapor state. Control of the expansion ratio can advantageously be applied to allow variable liquid production from the rectification plant.
