    摘要: A magnetic pump in a pump well in a molten metal furnace with a long, relatively thin side wall that wraps around a significant fraction of the circumference of the pump, which facilitates creation of an eddy current based flow field in the molten material with better magnetic coupling, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the pump. Breach of the well wall will not result in spillage of metal outside the furnace, and the well can be monitored for any such breach or other change so that the pump can be lifted out of the well to protect it from contact with the molten metal in the event of such a breach, or other appropriate action can be taken.

    摘要: A furnace for melting or heating metals comprising a furnace compartment enclosed by a refractory lining and a crucible for the melt arranged in the furnace compartment. Contacts are provided at the lower region of the furnace compartment, these contacts being arranged in the current circuit of a monitoring device and such contacts are electrically connected with one another by metal which may possibly flow out of the crucible into the furnace compartment. A baffle or guide plate, preferably a sheet-metal deflector or guide, engages beneath the contacts and extends at least over the region of the furnace compartment spanned by the crucible. The baffle plate is exposed to the thermal radiation emanating from heating elements.

    摘要: Apparatus and method are provided for the detection of melt adjacent to the exterior of a bushing in an induction channel furnace. An electrically conductive mesh is disposed around the exterior surface of the bushing facing a refractory that separates the bushing from a channel in which molten metal (melt) flows. The mesh is connected to a grounded voltage source so that when an electrically conductive melt at ground potential in the channel breaches the refractory and penetrates the electrically conductive mesh an electrical circuit is completed through the melt and the grounded voltage source.

    摘要: A method of making steel in a vessel comprising providing a lance for blowing oxygen on the surface of the steel in the vessel, the lance joined to a lance carriage and in communication with an accelerometer, the accelerometer in signal communication with a data acquisition module and a computer; charging the vessel with materials for steel making; lowering the lance into the vessel and injecting oxygen into the materials; acquiring a signal from the accelerometer indicative of lance vibration; processing the vibration signal to determine component frequencies of lance vibration; comparing the levels of the component frequencies to desired operating values; and adjusting at least one steel making process parameter based on the level of at least one of the component frequencies. The steel making process parameter to be adjusted may be oxygen flow rate through the lance.

    摘要: Cracking of a crucible can cause heavy damage to the system in melting furnaces. A reliable monitoring of threatening breaking out of the melt is therefore needed. For this purpose a monitoring device for melting furnaces is provided to monitor the breaking out of melt and includes a closed circuit consisting of several conductor sections with at least a partially conducting surface and a measuring/displaying device. A first conductor section is series connected through an ohmic resistor R to a second conductor section. The first conductor section is arranged directly adjacent, however, electrically isolatingly spaced from and with respect to the second conductor section.
