Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a device for determining orientation of an object. The device comprises a hollow spherical member. A plurality of sensors are positioned within a cavity defined by an inner surface and an outer surface of the hollow spherical member. Further, the device comprises a light source fixed within the hollow spherical member, and a solid sphere provided within the hollow spherical member. The solid spherical member is configured to displace within the hollow spherical member, pointing towards gravity and occupies lowermost position of the hollow spherical member, and thus blocks impingement of light on to corresponding one or more sensors at the lowermost position of the hollow spherical member. The blocked one or more sensors activate or deactivate, and generate a signal, which is received by a computing unit, to determine orientation of the object.

Abstract: Technique for performing camera calibration on a vehicle is disclosed. A method of performing camera calibration includes emitting, by a laser emitter located on a vehicle and pointed towards a road, a first laser pulse group towards a first location on a road and a second laser pulse group towards a second location on the road, where each laser pulse group includes one or more laser spots. For each laser pulse group: a first set of distances are calculated from a location of a laser receiver to the one or more laser spots, and a second set of distances are determined from an image obtained from a camera, where the second set of distances are from a location of the camera to the one or more laser spots. The method also includes determining two camera calibration parameters of the camera by solving two equations.

Abstract: Inclinometers with a parallel dipole line (PDL) trap system are provided. In one aspect, an inclinometer includes: a PDL trap having a pair of dipole line magnets, a transparent tube in between the dipole line magnets, and a diamagnetic object within the transparent tube, wherein the diamagnetic object is levitating in between the dipole line magnets; and a sensing system for determining a position z of the diamagnetic object in the PDL trap and for determining an inclination angle θ using the position z of the diamagnetic object in the PDL trap. Techniques to detect the diamagnetic object position using optical, capacitive and manual methods are described. A method for determining an inclination angle θ using the present inclinometers is also provided.
