The liquid hydrogen containing mechanism is provided with a cooling channel located around a sealing gasket, the cooling channel communicates with a thermostat.

An improvement in a rheometer and the method for measuring rheological properties of a viscoelastic test specimen at different temperatures, at which different temperatures the viscoelastic properties exhibit a relatively wide difference, wherein the test specimen is placed between and is coupled with opposed plates, one of the opposed plates is oscillated angularly relative the other of the opposed plates, and the angular displacement of one of the plates relative to the other of the plates and the torque associated with the relative angular displacement are measured within a predetermined optimum range of torque and angular displacement for determining the rheological properties, couples a first contact surface on one of the opposed plates with the test specimen to establish a first contact area between the one of the opposed plates and the test specimen when the test specimen is at one of the different temperatures, and couples a second contact surface on the one of the opposed plates with the test specimen to establish a second contact area between the one of the opposed plates and the test specimen when the test specimen is at another of the different temperatures, the first contact area being different in area from the second contact area such that, by virtue of the difference in area between the first and second contact areas, the torque and the relative angular displacement measured at each of the one and the another of the different temperatures fall within the predetermined optimum range.

A method to test a rotating metal part at a cryogenic temperature as a comprehensive non-destructive inspection technique is disclosed. This method for proof testing a rotating metal part was arrived at for a material which has the characteristics of high strength and low fracture toughness at an operating temperature and when placed at a cryogenic temperature, the strength of the material is increased and the fracture toughness is decreased.

A pin-on-plate friction and wear test device includes a high temperature heating chamber and a cooling pin. The high temperature heating chamber is fastened horizontally to the mobile base. The axis of the cooling pin is perpendicular to the upper surface of the mobile base. The electric resistance heating plate is located in the bottom closed space under the friction sample plate in the high temperature heating chamber. The electric resistance heats the fixed sample to experiment temperature. The inner layout of pin is a circling cooling channel where the cooling medium adjusts and cools the temperature of the sample. Thermocouples are separately distributed in the temperature measuring groove of the high temperature heating chamber and the temperature measuring hole of the cooling pin for real-time temperature measurement. The device can simulate the friction and wear properties of the high-strength steel plate and hot-stamping die in the differential temperature environment.

A device for low temperature bend-testing of a test piece is disclosed. The device of the present invention comprises fixed and movable units. The fixed unit includes a base which includes at least one substantially vertical stanchion. A tank for holding a volume of low temperature liquid, such as liquid nitrogen, is secured to the base. The movable unit includes a support and a pin. The support structure includes an arch portion and at least one projection. The test piece under test is supported by supports included in the arch portion. The pin is slidably mounted in the structure so as to be displaceable in a direction perpendicular to the test piece when supported by the supports. The device also includes means making the fixed and movable units operable together to permit the test piece to be bend-tested in the tank.
