    摘要: A multi-tool for fiber optic applications is disclosed. In one embodiment, the multi-tool includes a male fiber loopback plug. The multi-tool further includes a fiber coupler having a first end and a second end. The first end of the fiber coupler is able to receive the male fiber loopback plug when the multi-tool is in a closed position. Also, the first end of the fiber coupler is able to receive a loose fiber cable end when the multi-tool is in an open position. The multi-tool also includes an end cap which can be removably coupled to the second end of the fiber coupler. The end cap and the fiber coupler cooperatively provide a protective housing for a fiber cable end when the end cap is removably coupled to the second end of the fiber coupler and the fiber cable end is inserted into the first end of the fiber coupler. Further, the male fiber loopback plug and the fiber coupler collectively make a female fiber loopback plug when the male fiber loopback plug is in a closed position and the end cap is removed from the second end of the fiber coupler. Also, a dust-resistant housing protectively encloses the male fiber loopback plug, the fiber coupler, and the end cap such that the multi-tool is protected from dust intrusion when the male fiber loopback plug is in the closed position and the cap is coupled to the second end of the fiber coupler.

    摘要: A sensing cable includes a pair of sensing fibers that are connected to one another by a U-shaped turnaround section. The turnaround section is a section of sensing fiber coated with a jacket that includes metallic components. The turnaround section is bent and, then, annealed according to a method of the present invention. The turnaround section is robust and reduced in size (i.e., radius). The sensing cable also includes an inner sleeve that surrounds the sensing fibers and an elongated outer armor casing (i.e., including an armor tube and a sealing cap) that encases a terminating end thereof. The armor tube and the sealing cap protect the sensing fiber from mechanical and chemical harm, are reduced in size and facilitate insertion of the sensing cable into downhole environments. The sensing cable has improved operating range up to 300° C.

The breakout connector has first and second ends, the first end having a multifiber connector for an optical ribbon, and the second end having a plurality of single port connectors. A fiber breakout separates the optical ribbon into a plurality of fibers.

    摘要: A fiber optic connector in such as a male MT-RJ connector has a ferrule fixed to the housing. Ferrule-to-ferrule alignment is provided by the floating ferrule in the mating female MT-RJ connector. A field-installable connector includes a field termination unit with fiber stubs and index matching gel for receiving the cut ends of optical fibers. The fiber stubs extend into the ferrule of the connector. A loopback test unit includes a ferrule and housing like those of a standard connector. A fiber loop has both ends lodged in the fiber bores of the ferrule so that the loop will connect the transmitter of a transceiver to the receiver of the same transceiver when the unit is engaged in the connector of the transceiver. The fiber loop is held within a boot attached to the housing or ferrule so that the entire unit can be conveniently installed and removed, and so that numerous loopback testers can be used simultaneously even when the device under test has numerous closely-spaced transceivers.
