摘要: A repairable fiber optic cable is disclosed. The repairable fiber optic cable can include an outer protective housing, a connector associated with the outer protective housing, and a fiber optic core removably disposed in the outer protective housing. The fiber optic core can have an optical fiber and an insert coupled about an end of the optical fiber. An attachment feature of the connector can be operable with an attachment feature of the insert to facilitate removable coupling of the insert with the connector.

摘要: Methods for splicing optical fibers include coupling a first optical fiber cable to a longitudinally extending closure frame and coupling a second optical fiber cable to an adjustable guide member on the closure frame. The adjustable guide member is moved toward the first optical fiber cable to provide a distance between the first and second optical fiber cable less than an exposed length of the first and second optical fiber therebetween to provide a slack length of optical fiber. Cleaved exposed ends of a first optical fiber from the first optical fiber cable and a second optical fiber from the second optical fiber cable are positioned proximate each other in a splice station displaced from the closure frame utilizing the slack length of optical fiber. The first and second optical fibers are spliced in the splice station and the adjustable guide member is moved away the first optical fiber cable to remove the slack length and position the spliced optical fibers in the closure frame.

摘要: A composite reinforced electrical transmission conductor primarily designed for transmission of electrical signals. The conductor is comprised of a reinforced plastic composite inner core along with an outer highly electrically conductive sheath therearound. In this way, the inner core provides the necessary strength and the outer sheath provides for transmission of the electrical signals. In a preferred embodiment, the reinforced composite core is comprised of individual sections which cooperate together to provide the necessary loading capabilities. Further, a fiber optic cable may also be carried by the composite reinforced core. A splicing arrangement for securing ends of the cable together is also provided.

摘要: A method of repairing a slope-matched cable system that leaves the net chromatic dispersion of the system nominally unchanged comprises removing a portion of the slope-matched cable system that is faulted, either the cable or a repeater, and constructing a replacement cable portion from two N-P cable lengths having negative dispersion fibers and positive dispersion fibers and a P cable length having positive dispersion fibers. The N-P cable lengths are coupled on each side of the P cable length and the replacement cable portion is connected to the slope-matched cable where the faulted cable was removed. The method also accounts for the extra cable that necessarily has to be added during the repair and for the replacement of a faulted repeater. A cable repair can be made in a regular cable section or in a compensation cable section, in which case the replacement cable portion can also include a repair repeater with LBOs to leave the gain shape of the transmission spectrum nominally unchanged and allows for replacement of a gain equalizer if one was removed during the repair. Similarly, when a faulted repeater is removed the replacement portion can include a replacement repeater, as well as a repair repeater, to leave the gain shape of the transmission spectrum nominally unchanged.

摘要: A method of repairing an optical transmission cable which is broken at a breakage point, including the steps of fabricating a second cable by using the even number of first cables each of which includes a first area comprised of a bridge fiber and a second area comprised of at least one kind of fiber such that the first and second areas are arranged in a length-wise direction of each of the first cables, the second cable having opposite end surfaces having the same fiber arrangement as that of exposed surfaces of the optical transmission cable which are caused by a breakage of the optical transmission cable, first areas being spliced to each other and the second areas being spliced to each other in the second cable, and inserting the second cable into the optical transmission cable at the breakage point.

摘要: A system, including reconfigurable optical cable splice for splicing optical cables, that does not require any direct handling of the optical fiber is described. The optical splice includes at least one input line; a plurality of output lines; and a plurality of connecting elements of substantially cubic shape including at least one ninety degree turning cube and a plurality of straight through cubes. Each of the connecting elements has a first surface disposed to be coupled to an end of the at least one input line and having at least two surfaces disposed to be coupled to at least two output lines respectively, whereby each input line defines an optic path for optic signals using one of the plurality of output lines. The splice further includes at least one storage location for storing at least one connecting element not in use. For reconfiguration, the system requires no electricity, no special tools, and no cleaning of fiber connections.
