An image sensor shoots a captured image by receiving light coming from a subject via an optical unit and by converting the light into electrical signal. A captured-image processing unit detects a luminance level of the captured image. A passive mode AF calculator calculates a shift amount of a lens in autofocusing using a passive mode, and an active mode AF calculator calculates a shift amount of a lens in autofocusing using an active mode. An AF mode determination unit selects any one of the passive mode or the active mode by comparing the luminance level with a threshold. The present technology is applicable to digital still cameras.

    摘要: A system for increasing the depth of field and decreasing the wavelength sensitivity and the effects of misfocus-producing aberrations of the lens of an incoherent optical system incorporates a special purpose optical mask into the incoherent system. The optical mask has been designed to cause the optical transfer function to remain essentially constant within some range from the in-focus position. Signal processing of the resulting intermediate image undoes the optical transfer modifying effects of the mask, resulting in an in-focus image over an increased depth of field. Generally the mask is placed at a principal plane or the image of a principal plane of the optical system. Preferably, the mask modifies only phase and not amplitude of light. The mask may be used to increase the useful range of passive ranging systems.

    摘要: An imaging system is characterized at least by an ambiguity function (“AF”) and a point spread function (“PSF”). The AF is a function of parameters u and v related to a misfocus parameter ψ; the PSF is at least a function of ψ. The system includes (1) an image recording device, (2) an optical arrangement for imaging an object to the image recording device, and (3) a post processor that renders an in-focus electronic image over a range of distances between the object and the optical arrangement. The optical arrangement alters phase such that a main lobe of the AF is broader in v for a specific u. The PSF has a functionally different form for a specific ψ, in comparison to a PSF characterizing the system when the optical arrangement does not alter the phase for those specific values of u and ψ over the range of distances.

    摘要: There are video and sound recording devices such as movie cameras or video cameras with an automatic focusing system of the type for setting a photographic lens to a position at which an object can be sharply focused in response to the signal which is representative of a distance from the camera to the object and obtained by measuring the time interval from the time when the ultrasonic waves are transmitted at a predetermined repetition frequency to the object to the time when the echo from the object is received. Such devices have a common defect that a microphone picks up impulse-like noise generated from an ultrasonic transducer especially at the start point of ultrasonic waves. To overcome this problem, the present invention provides an audible noise elimination or suppression means or a control circuit which operates in synchronism with the ultrasonic wave transmission so that an audio signal processing system attenuates the audio output signal.

    摘要: A distance detecting device for close-up photography applicable to a range finding device of the type wherein light emitted from a light source is projected onto an object through a projecting lens, and the light reflected from the object impinges upon one of a plurality of light receiving elements via a light receiving lens for detecting which one of a plurality of zones the object is located, depending on which one of the light receiving elements receives the light. The device in accordance with the present invention generates a single light pulse for ordinary photography and light pulses successively for close-up photography, indicating whether a camera-to-target-object distance matches a predetermined distance for close-up photography or deviates therefrom. The successive light pulses for close-up photography may be weaker in intensity than the single light pulse for ordinary photography.

    摘要: Photographic apparatus, e.g., a camera, having a synchronized flash. The camera includes a ranging system, an objective lens assembly movable between first and second positions for focusing an object at the camera's focal plane, a source of artificial illumination for illuminating the object, and a flash fire control in the form of an electronic flash initiation timer. The flash fire control receives an input from the ranging system which is representative of the camera-to-subject distance, and an input from the objective lens assembly upon its release for movement toward the second position. The flash fire control correlates these inputs so as to fire the source of artificial illumination while the lens assembly is still moving toward the second position and the object is in focus. In one embodiment, the intensity and/or the duration of the light from the artificial source of illumination is changed as a function of an exposure parameter, e.g., camera-to-subject distance.
