The printing apparatus enables selection between a first print mode and a second print mode. In the first print mode, a sheet is conveyed at a defined speed in the monochromatic print processing and is conveyed at a speed lower than the defined speed in the color print processing. In the second print mode, a sheet is conveyed at a speed lower than the defined speed both in the monochromatic print processing and in the color print processing.

摘要： An apparatus for fusing toner to a surface of a sheet which includes tandem sets of heated and pressure rollers. A screw drive, solenoid or other means is used to urge the roller sets to make uniformly distributed contact on the sheet passing between the heated and pressure rollers. Each set of rollers may be selectively employed so as to vary temperature, dwell time, pressure and other performance parameters at the fusing nips of the sets of heated and pressure rollers. The path of a sheet moving through the fuser need not be altered to employ the varied fusing performance combinations, also reducing the likelihood of sheet jamming and misfeed. Fuser oil applicators may also be employed so as to apply oil to each heated roller as it engages the sheet.

摘要： An electrophotographic copy machine includes a system manager which controls the operation of the copy machine based on a plurality of performance levels corresponding to fuser copy quality characteristics, i.e., TPE, gloss and fuse fix. Each performance level corresponds to job parameters of a job to be performed, such as black and white paper copies, black and white copies on 11".times.17" or A3 size paper, black and white transparency copies, and color copies. When a particular job is requested, if the temperature of the fuser roll or pressure roll is below a minimum temperature required by the corresponding performance level, the system manager either prevents operation or reduces the copy rate until the minimum temperature requirements are met. The result is consistent fuser performance of high quality copy output.

摘要： A method and apparatus for faster monochrome printing in an in-line electrophotographic printer is described. The printer is configured such that it has more light emitting sources for use in an image transfer assembly for black than for image transfer assemblies for any other color in the printer. When printing a color print job, less than all of the light emitting sources in the black image transfer assembly are used. A print controller directs print data for a monochrome print job to all of the available light emitting sources in the black image transfer assembly and increases the print medium transport speed. The system and method may be configured to operate with dedicated data channels for each light emitting source or may share some data channels for monochrome and color print jobs.

摘要： The process of the invention determines whether toners of cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) are all included in toner filled in a toner cartridge 40, based on color information of the toner read from a storage element 50 of the toner cartridge 40 (S100 and S110). When the toners of all these colors are included in the toner cartridge 40, the process sets parameter values for a color image to control parameters (a fixation temperature T, a fixation pressure P, and a preliminary revolving frequency R) of a fixation process (S120). When the toners of all these colors are not included in the toner cartridge 40, on the other hand, the process specifies formation of a monochromatic image and sets parameter values for the monochromatic image to the control parameters (S130). This arrangement effectively ensures adequate formation of a color image and a monochromatic image and desirably prevents excessive deterioration of constituents of an image formation device.

The toner preferably has 0.02 log(Pa)/° C. or less of a gradient of a storage, elasticity per temperature in a temperature range of from Tm+20° C. to Tm+50° C. Here, Tm represents a melting temperature of a crystalline resin contained in the crystalline toner.

摘要： A three roll fuser system for a xerographic machine includes a reversibly drivable central pressure roll, a first fuser roll located adjacent the central pressure roll forming a first fuser nip with the central roll, and a second fuser roll located adjacent the central pressure roll on a substantially opposite side of the central pressure roll as the first fuser roll forming a second fuser nip with the central roll. Copy sheets having an unfused image on a side thereof are transported from an inlet through one of the first and second nips to fuse the image on the copy sheet and then transported to an outlet. The three roll fuser system is capable of selectively fusing either side of a copy sheet without requiring extra sheet inverting devices. In a preferred embodiment, the fuser rolls have differing physical properties and can be operated under different operating conditions such as fuser temperature and speed.
