An information handling system includes a host computer and a remote access controller. A plurality of remote users communicate with the host computer. The remote access controller communicates an instant message from one of the remote users to one or more of the remote users. The instant message communicates information related to administration, use, access, and/or management of the at least one resource of the host computer.

A software object approval system is integrated with a process control or safety system environment and, in particular, with a process control or safety system design environment to implement and manage electronic approval of new software objects created within the process control and safety system environment. The software object approval system electronically generates identification information representing a group of entities whose approval is needed prior to implementing a software object within the process control or safety system. The system may then send the software object to the entities and receive from each entity an electronic indication regarding approval of the software object. The approval system prevents the process control or safety system from implementing the software object until each entity within the group of entities approves the software object.

The system includes a plurality of robot controllers, each capable of receiving credentials and including an authentication component for authentication of the credentials, and an authorization component for handling authorization for access to the robot controller based on the result of the authentication, a remote computer located at a remote site and capable of communicating with the robot controllers and having an interface capable of receiving credentials and configured to send the credentials to the robot controllers, a server component capable of communicating with the robot controllers, and an identifying component positioned at the local site configured to receive proof of local access.

Abstract:
An apparatus allows workers to assert and release control over the energization of a system. The apparatus does not require the workers to carry any additional paraphernalia, and is not be easily defeated by other workers. Users asserting and releasing control present tokens uniquely identifying each user to a reader, and the apparatus prevents transition of the system to an undesired state until an appropriate number of users are currently asserting control. For example, a dangerous manufacturing robot can be prevented from energizing until all the users that have asserted control when entering the robot's controlled space have subsequently released control when leaving the robot's controlled space.
