摘要: Methods for realizing advanced graphical user interface (GUI) in panel subunit. The present invention provides, in one embodiment, a button GUI element descriptor that defines a bitmap to be displayed when a button is out of focus and another bitmap to be displayed when the button is in focus. In another embodiment, the present invention provides a table GUI element descriptor that defines a table-like on screen display to be displayed on the contoller device. Another embodiment of the present invention provides a panel GUI element descriptor that includes a focused identifier attribute indicating a pre-determined element of the on-screen display as default focus. In this way, the target device would be able to control the default focus of the controller device when displaying an on-screen display. In yet another embodiment, the present invention provides a text GUI element descriptor that includes a font style attribute that dictates whether the text GUI element should be displayed as bold, underlined and/or reversed. By using these extended elements in panel subunit, more complicated and advanced GUI, such as an electronic programming guide (EPG) can be achieved.

摘要: A method and system for providing a user interface for a networked target device within a home audio/visual network. The DDI allows any DDI target to describe its physical appearance including controls and displays, etc., to a DDI controller. The controller can be a remote physical device or can be a software program resident on the same or separate device as the target. The controller interfaces with the target to obtain the DDI data and generates a user interface for the target including: 1) interactive controls; and 2) user display information pertinent to the target. The DDI allows the controller to trigger actions on the target as if a user had physically manipulated the controls of the target. The controller and the target are connected to the same communication network. A particular embodiment operates within the HAVi architecture. The controller communicates with the user by using the input and output devices of (typically) the device upon which the controller is executing. This communication can be done in a controller-implementation-dependent manner. The target can be a DCM that controls its device in a implementation-dependent manner. The controller may be written in a generic manner that does not need to be implemented with knowledge of a particular target in mind; all target-dependencies are represented in the DDI data provided by the target to the controller.

摘要: A method and system for providing a user interface for a networked target device using panel subunit descriptor information maintained by the target device. The present invention utilizes a panel subunit to allow any compliant device (e.g., a target device) to describe the appearance of its physical (and logical) controls and displays to another device (e.g., an intelligent controller) and allows the controller to trigger actions on the target as if a user had physically manipulated the controls on the target device directly. The panel subunit uses objects defined with several standard types of controls and displays (e.g., push buttons, sliders, dials, LCD screens, etc.) that are commonly found on consumer electronic devices. The control types have well defined behaviors (e.g., buttons are pushed, dials are moved, values are input, etc.). In addition, the panel subunit defines a set of commands which are to be applied to any of these controls when selected by the user. The commands are defined to be sufficiently generic so that they apply to most types of controls. The panel subunit also defines generic user interaction commands (or user events) which can be applied to the controls (e.g., press, press and hold, release, input value, etc.) by a user. The purpose of these user events is to encapsulate the typical user manipulated action for the controls and to let the target device decide the manner in which to interpret the user actions on its own. A status descriptor keeps the intelligent controller informed of the status of the target device being manipulated.

摘要: A time-slot addressed, system keyed multiplex device is taught. Briefly stated, a ribbon cable provides a power and ground lead and a clock and data signal lead. A microcomputer or master controller then communicates over the ribbon cable with a plurality of intelligent connectors. Each connector is provided with a unique address such that by counting the number of clock pulses provided by the master controller the logic packages in the intelligent connector recognizes the appropriate time-slot for a response or command signal. A single one-pulse command is then presented by the master controller on the data bus which is then received by the logic circuitry followed by a time period on the data bus when the logic package may send to the master controller a single bit of data. In this manner of command and response, various devices such as relays may be turned on or off with their conditions presented to the master controller.

摘要: A method and system for providing an exact image transfer and root panel list within the panel subunit graphical user interface mechanism of networked electronic devices. The exact image transfer mechanism allows a target device to send a networked controller device a bitmap image of the exact display required of the target device. By transferring an exact bitmap of what is to be displayed, the target device can guarantee that the display rendered by the controller will not be modified or altered. This is useful in cases where the display represents an electronic program guide (EPG) or other suitable display that should be displayed with a predetermined arrangement and should not be altered by the controller. This is also useful in cases where the controller does not have a robust processing capability and therefore merely displays the exact bitmap sent by the target. Focus navigation is communicated from the controller to the target which then can alter the bitmap to illustrate an updated focus. Command pass-through can be used to communicate the focus navigation commands to the target. A root panel list maintained by the target can also be used to inform the controller of the capabilities of the target. The entries of the root panel list can be bitmap type, element type or analog video type. A controller can more readily generate the root panel without requiring more information from the target device and without having to render the entire panel subunit descriptor information for instances when a controller having a reduced processing set is used.

摘要: The present invention describes a control system for controlling safety-critical processes. The control system has a first control unit for controlling a safety-critical process and at least one signal unit linked to the safety-critical process via I/O channels. It further comprises a field bus connecting said first control unit and said signal unit, and a bus master for controlling communication on said field bus. Said first control unit and said signal unit each comprise safety-directed arrangements for ensuring failsafe communication among each other. Said bus master is connected to said field bus separately from said first control unit and said signal unit.
