Abstract:
A method of embedding RF equipment in a reusable material handing apparatus for the purposes of managing the apparatus with the device is described. In one embodiment, the RF equipment includes a low cost RFID tag, label, placard or like, which is incorporated into the apparatus. Each RFID device responds to a management radio frequency signal with a unique reply to wirelessly identify the individual apparatus. RFID tags, labels, placards and the like typically comprise a first substrate layer to support the components of the RFID device and a second laminate layer to cover the RFID device and provide a printable surface for a serial number, trade name, bar code, manufacture date, country of origin and the like. The methods involve embedding RFID devices into the apparatus during the original manufacture or assembly and disassembly of the apparatus.
Abstract:
An RFID tag includes: a base portion in a plate shape made of dielectric material; a loop antenna formed by etching and including a first antenna element and a second antenna element disposed in a loop shape along an outer periphery of the base portion; and an IC chip inserted to the loop antenna in series and including a first electrode and a second electrode.
Abstract:
A transponder is disclosed to receive a wireless electromagnetic query signal and transmit a corresponding wireless electromagnetic response signal. The transponder comprises a first coil and at least one further coil that function as antennas to receive the wireless electromagnetic query signal and generate separate wired electrical incoming signals. An axis of the first coil and an axis of the at least one further coil are differently aligned in space, and each coil is associated with at least one means for limiting the voltage of the respective incoming signal. The separate wired electrical incoming signals are rectified and converted to current signals. The peak values of the current signals are detected and compared, such that a control signal is generated to identify one coil between the first coil and the at least one further coil that has a larger peak value of current.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure are directed toward a system in which a three-dimensional low-frequency (3D-LF) antenna and a high frequency (HF) antenna are used. The 3D-LF antenna includes three coils each oriented relative to X, Y and Z axes that define a Cartesian coordinate system for a three-dimensional space. The HF antenna is oriented along one of the axes of the LF coils and in the same antenna package as the 3D-LF antenna. The 3D-LF antenna is configured to be used in connection with an LF signal of between 3 kHz and 300 kHz. The HF antenna is configured to be used in connection with an HF signal between 3 MHz and 30 MHz.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A transaction card having a metal layer, an opening in the metal layer for a transponder chip, and at least one discontinuity extending from an origin on the card periphery to a terminus in the opening. The card has a greater flex resistance than a card having a comparative discontinuity with the terminus and the origin the same distance from a line defined by a first long side of the card periphery in an absence of one or more strengthening features. Strengthening features include a discontinuity wherein one of the terminus or the origin are located relatively closer to the first long side of the card periphery than the other, a plurality of discontinuities wherein fewer than all extend from the card periphery to the opening, a self-supporting, non-metal layer disposed on at least one surface of the card, or one or more ceramic reinforcing tabs surrounding the opening.
