Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for altering pitch of a note played on a musical instrument keyboard of a touch-sensitive electronic display. An exemplary method includes playing a note of a key of the keyboard on the touch-sensitive display touched by a user. The method includes continuously altering the pitch of the played note as the user slides a point of contact on the touch-sensitive display horizontally from the key being played across adjacent keys to a second key, in accordance with the keys being contacted during the sliding of the point of contact. In a further aspect, the method includes detecting motion of user contact in a direction other than horizontally across keys of the keyboard, such as vertical, and activating a sound effect in addition to pitch alteration in response to the detection. Example sound effects include tremolo, vibrato, echo, and sound filter effects.

A new, performer played, real time, multitional, multimbral musical instrument consists of speed and force sensitive keys in which time domain multiplexing is used to find and associate one and only one tone generator, not otherwise busy, with any key that is depressed. The sound generator disclosed can provide very realistic simulations of the flute, oboe, trumpet, French horn, trombone through the provision of various types of modulations in amplitude and frequency of the various partials, as is characteristic of each instrument simulated, and filtered noise. Glissandi are provided from one note to another and are controlled from the pair of keys involved by the relative pressure with which they are depressed. For the nonpercussive tonalities, the speed with which a key is depressed, which is determined by differentiating the force, may be used to cause the attack transient to behave in a manner very characteristic of the instrument being simulated. The force with which a key is depressed is determined from the rate of rise of the potential across a capacitive keying system excited through a resistor. Percussive sound generators are provided also; the intensity of the notes generated by these generators is determined by the speed with which the associated key is depressed. The force with which the associated key is depressed can be used to determine the rate of automatic repetition of the note. The speed with which a key is depressed can also be used for nonpercussive instruments to alter the character of the attack transient.

The pedal steel guitar has a plurality of strings strung across the body, with at least one multi-element transducer positioned proximate the strings. At least one foot pedal or knee lever, carried by the body and being physically disengaged from the plurality of strings, is coupled to at least one sensor that produces an electronic sensor signal when the pedal or lever is moved. A digital signal processor receives the electronic transducer signal and the electronic sensor signal and operates on the electronic transducer signal in the digital domain. The processor uses the electronic sensor signal to manipulate at least one tonal property of the electronic sensor signal. The digital signal processor produces an audio output. The digital signal processor is programmed to change the manner in which the digital signal processor manipulates the at least one tonal property based on programming information received through a programming input.

An improved keyboard for a musical instrument includes a plurality of keys arranged in a side-by-side order, all lying in a common plane. Different embodiments of the invention have a varying number of keys per octave, from as small as 12 keys per octave to as high as 90-120 keys per octave. In those embodiments of the invention in which the number of keys per octave results in a key whose width is too narrow to be uniquely depressed by an operator's finger, associated apparatus determines from a plurality of keys which have been depressed, a particular tone to be produced. The keyboard may be associated with apparatus to distinguish one set of keys from other sets of keys, which apparatus can include a selectively energizable light source associated with each different key or other equivalent apparatus.

Embodiments of the invention comprise a new device and technique to realize a utilization for providing a system, method, and apparatus for providing an improved audio tone control and generation. More specifically, embodiments of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and apparatuses for an electronically improved audio tone control and generation that is adaptable for utilization in cooperation with a Musical Instrument Digital Interface (“MIDI”). In a business method embodiment, the user may pay a monthly fee or a licensing fee for an audio tone control and generation service, or alternatively may pay a per-session fee or a fee based upon data size and/or amount of data manipulation.
摘要:
A method, and corresponding computer system, for mapping user positional data to output data based on user selection and customization input. The method includes displaying a number of mapping routine identifiers to a user through a user interface. User selection input is received indicating a user selection of one of the mapping routine identifiers and a mapping routine corresponding to the selected identifier is retrieved and executed. User position data is received (e.g., MIDI data from a MIDI hardware controller) and the user position data is processed with the selected mapping routine to map the user position data to output data. The output data is then transmitted via an interface such as a MIDI interface to an output device to create an output (such as a synthesizer connected to speakers).

An electronic musical instrument including two or more keyboards individually capable of selecting, simultaneously, any twelve out of at least 1,024 discrete pitches per octave to produce scales of twenty-four or more notes per octave using conventional keyboards. It can also produce two or more completely independent tones with a specific pitch or phase difference between them for research in music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, acoustics, and monaural and binaural beats.
