An example nuclear reactor core includes a plurality of fuel modules, where each of the plurality of fuel modules includes nuclear fuel; at least one fuel-module actuator mechanically coupled to at least one of the plurality of fuel modules, where the at least one fuel-module actuator is configured to rotate the at least one of the plurality of fuel modules; and at least one neutron source configured to emit neutrons and trigger a fission chain reaction in the at least one of the plurality of fuel modules.

摘要: A nuclear fuel cell includes a net neutron-producing material, a neutron-consuming material, and a neutron-moderating material. Upon exposure of the net-producing material, the neutron-moderating material, and the neutron-consuming material to a neutron source, a ratio of the net neutron-producing material to (i) the neutron-consuming material and (ii) the neutron-moderating material is operable to convert neutrons into charged particles without producing net neutrons.

摘要: Direct nuclear energy conversion into electricity device based on nano-hetero-structures with applications in nuclear reactors and radioisotope batteries. The nano structure may be made by a repeated customized sequence of nano-layers generically called “CIci” The structure may also be made by a series of structures evolved from CIci as nanoplasmon, nanowire, nano-tube. The Structure relies on knock on electron avalanche produced by stopping radiation that is generated by the high electron density conductor material “C” that tunnels through insulator “I” and accumulates in the low density conductor “c”. The “C” material is producing no electrons to cross the associate insulator “i” therefore remains negatively charged by the electron shower, and discharges through a resistor connected to th “C” later. The nanoplasmon structure exhibits thermal direct conversion properties by radiation switched mechanism that is generated by the plasmon-phonon resonance. The device has ultra-capacitive properties when made with carbon nanotubes. The device is useful for a direct conversion nano-battery or for nuclear reactor direct conversion structure. It may also be used as a radiation energy harvesting device when made with actinides for neutro-capture and amplification.

摘要: A thermionic reactor for providing electrical power and propulsion power. A reactor vessel has a plurality of thermionic heat pipe modules located therein and spaced apart on a hexagonal pitch. Nuclear fuel elements are positioned in the spaces between the thermionic heat pipe modules. Insulating material is provided between the reactor vessel and the array of thermionic heat pipe modules and nuclear fuel elements. Propulsion power is provided by a propellant storage tank and propellant nozzle in fluid communication with opposite ends of the reactor vessel. The thermionic heat pipe modules serve to produce electricity and aid in removal of waste heat.

摘要: Devices for generating heat and electric energy by nuclear fission reactions. The device includes a cylindrical tube, and a drain tube disposed inside having openings along its length for receiving drain fluid. The device also includes means forming the fuel layer disposed within the operative portion of the tube. The fuel layer generates fission products and has a thickness smaller than the fission product range. Drain fluid passes over the surfaces of the fuel layer, collects the fission products for discharge therefrom. The fuel hetero-structure is formed from the fuel layer, an insulating material and a liquid. The insulating material has a repetitive structure that includes at least three layers and interacts with the fission products to generate electricity. One of the layers generates electrons showers that are converted into heat or electricity.
