Electronic driving components sized to drive contactors of a determined power class are generally used. The object of the invention is to create a process and circuitry which allows contactors of different power classes to be driven by a single driving component. The user selects on a scale the switching position corresponding to the contactor to be driven. A reference voltage proportional to the magnitude of the starting current of the respective contactor is thus selected. An automatic regulation keeps constant the starting current during the starting time of the contactor. For that purpose, a measurement voltage proportional to the magnitude of the starting system and dropping across a measuring resistor is supplied to a first input of a comparator, a reference voltage which may be selected by a coding switch (6) being applied to the second input of the comparator. The output of the comparator co-operates with a switching element which switches the starting current. This circuitry may be mounted upstream of existing contactors, in particular on a top hat rail.

A system for controlling electric motors in binary and hybrid applications, particularly motors which are used to control windows which can be moved downwards from one extreme position to another extreme position by a single touch of the switch, and between other positions by depressing the switch so long as movement is desired. In this system, a control element is placed in series with the electric motor. The control element has an interrupt component and a sense component which are coupled in series, and the series combination is coupled in parallel with a control component. When the electric motor reaches one of its extreme positions, the sense component senses an increase in the current drawn by the motor. The sense component then signals the control component to cause the interrupt component to interrupt the current and stop the motor. In one embodiment of this system, the sense component is a PTC device, the control component is a relay coil, and the interrupt component is a set of relay contacts coupled with the relay coil.

An energization circuit for a microwave oven employs a PTC thermistor to eliminate high transient current surges resulting from energization and deenergization of induction elements therein to provide circuit protection both during oven start and operation. The energization circuit comprises first and second parallel circuit portions for energizing a transformer used to energize a magnetron that produces microwave energy, the first circuit portion including a normally open start switch and a current limiting PTC thermistor coupled in series relation and the second circuit portion including a relay operated switch, a relay for operating the relay operated switch, and a relay circuit portion connected to the first circuit portion between the start switch and PTC thermistor for energizing the relay upon closure of the start switch and then through the PTC thermistor upon opening of the start switch. During start-up, power is briefly supplied to the magnetron through the PTC thermistor to reduce high current surge flow to the transformer until the relay operated switch closes and supplies full power to the transformer and thus to the magnetron. The relay first is energized directly through the start switch upon closure of the latter and then by reverse current flow through the PTC thermistor upon closing of the relay operated switch and opening of the start switch.
