摘要:
A method for processing an end of a very thin coaxial cable which includes sequentially from its center to outer side a center conductor, an inner insulator, a shield conductor formed of a helically wound or a braided conducting wire, and a jacket. The method includes cutting the jacket to expose the shield conductor, cutting a circumferential portion of the exposed shield conductor in plural longitudinal portions of the very thin coaxial cable, and pulling and removing the jacket and the shield conductor between the end of the very thin coaxial cable and a farthest end-processing portion from the end of the very thin coaxial cable, to expose the inner insulator.

A process for cutting and removing a portion of an outer sheath having spaced apart insulation covered wires and a core member containing an uncovered ground wire there-between. The sheath is cut by plier jaw members having cutting edges which define en opening configured to the sheath. On closing the sheath is cut circumferentially without significantly cutting the insulation on the wires or the unsheathed ground wire. The cut portion of the sheath is then removed in one continuous process.

A plier tool for cutting multi-conductor electrical cables is disclosed. The tool has a pair of levers having pivotally connected boss portions. The levers also having coacting handle and jaw portions on opposite sides of the boss portions such that upon manipulation of the handles toward one another the jaw portions close to perform a work operation. The jaw portions include coactable cutter sections each having stepped parts oriented such that on closure on a multi-conductor cable a first pair of the parts will substantially sever a first conductor before a second pair of the parts commences to sever a second conductor.

The present invention relates to an improved stripping machine for removing insulation from flat cable wherein, the cable has a plurality of conductors positioned in substantially the same plane. The instant machine includes a frame having a pair of arms movably and pivotally mounted on the frame. A grinding wheel is rotatably mounted on each of the arms. One of the grinding wheels has a larger diameter than the other grinding wheel. An adjustment device is connected to the arms for simultaneously positioning the grinding wheels relative to the conductors. The arms with the grinding wheels are movable in a direction transverse to a length of flat cable to remove insulation from the cable. The wheels move in opposite directions at the positions where the wheels engage opposite sides of the cable. Drive rollers are mounted on the frame for pulling the cable along the length of the cable and along the length of the table mounted on the frame. A pair of opposed slit rollers is mounted on the frame to separate selectively conductors of the cable.

A ribbon cable splitting device is described in which an opposing pair of splitting elements having a number of equally spaced specially shaped teeth are brought together in an interlaced fashion to separate the individual conductors of a similarly spaced ribbon cable. The shape, spacing and quantity of teeth on each of the splitting elements and the basic device may be varied to accommodate various sizes of ribbon cable for splitting or subsequent connection to cable connectors, circuit boards or terminals. This invention is directed to a device for separating insulated ends of parallel multiwire electrical cables of the so-called ribbon type. More particularly the invention is that of an apparatus capable of separating each individual insulation covered electrical wire from those adjacent by means of separating and spacing elements having cutting elements shaped to engage the wires, cut the material joining them together and space the cut sections.

A cable is stripped, according to this disclosure, by slitting the insulation along the length of a portion of the cable between the edge portions and the bounds of the conductors from the side closest the conductors to a depth at least as great as the ground plane; simultaneously slitting through the cable across the edge portions; and simultaneously slitting the insulation and plane between the edge portions from the side closest the ground plane. One of the tabs formed as a result of the aforementioned slittings is then pulled to peel away insulation and ground plane. Apparatus is employed to simultaneously accomplish the slittings.

An electrician's tool for stripping outer insulating sheathing from multiple conductor electrical cable and for stripping insulation from individually insulated conductors. The tool is characterized by a first flat blade for removing sheathing from one side of a multiple conductor cable to expose the individual conductors, without damaging the individual insulation of those conductors, and a longitudinally retractable knife blade for cutting off the sheathing folded back and separated from the opposite side of the conductors. The tool also preferably has separate blade means for stripping insulation from the ends of individually insulated conductors. The tool is of simple compact construction comprising a pair of arms pivotally connected at one end and carrying the several blade means.

Apparatus for slitting a sheathed three-conductor cable having two outer conductors and a central ground conductor preparatory to installing the slit segment into a specially prepared electrical fixture comprises a slitting assembly reciprocatingly slidable towards and away from a cradle member arranged to support and align a given length of the cable for engagement with a pair of spaced blade members affixed to the slitting assembly. The sheath of the cable is slit on either side of the central ground conductor, one of the outer conductors being displaced out of the plane of the conductors while the other outer conductor is displaced laterally away from the central conductor. The slit portion of the cable is thus suitably arranged for installation in a specially prepared electrical fixture which may be placed between extending portions of the jaw members of a further embodiment of the invention to complete the installation.

A method and a tool are provided for simultaneously exposing the conductors of sheathed three conductor-cable having at least two insulated conductive wires and a central ground wire at a selected position along the length thereof without severing the conductive wires and without disturbing the insulation of the individual conductive wires, while simultaneously spacing the conductive wires relative to the ground wire in a configuration conforming to a specially designed electrical fixture. The apparatus includes a cutting assembly having a pair of spaced blade members each having a point for piercing the sheath of the cable on respective opposite sides of the ground conductor when brought into engagement with the cable, a pair of slicing edges extending away from the piercing point for slicing the cable sheathing as the blade assembly is brought into closer engagement with a clamping assembly holding the cable in fixed position, and a wedge portion extending outwardly from the slicing edges for wedging the insulated conductors on either side of the ground conductor laterally away from the ground conductor. The tool is a hand-operated device having a clamping assembly disposed on one end of an actuating arm, a cutting assembly disposed on the end of another actuating arm, and means pivotally connecting the actuating arms for cooperably engaging and disengaging the cutting assembly and clamping assembly.

To prepare a multi-conductor jacketed cable for splicing it is necessary to remove the jacket for some distance from the end of the cable and to cut the conductors so that they extend for different distances from the end of the jacket. This is done by first gripping the cable by a clamp some distance from its end. Longitudinally spaced pairs of cutters are then brought together to cut through the conductors and through the jacket to the conductors with the cut through the conductors being spaced toward the clamp from the end of the cable a greater distance than the cut through the conductors. The clamp is then moved away from the cutters so as to pull the main portion of the cable with it while leaving the portions of the jacket and conductors between the cutters and the end of the cable behind.
