Abstract: A system and method for concurrent encryption and lossless compression of data with an algorithm executing on a computer platform. The lossless compression component of the algorithm consists of preprocessing the data with a Burrows-Wheeler transformation followed by an inversion ranking transformation in advance of employing an entropy coder, such as binary arithmetic coder. The frequency vector of the Inversion Ranking transformation is then encrypted and transmitted along with the compressed data with only the frequency vector encrypted. Since the frequency vector is required for decompression, no further encryption of the compressed data is necessary to secure the compressed file.

Abstract: A specifying unit specifies one or more dividing positions in input data. An individual region compressing unit compresses latter compression data that are separated fay any of the pieces of former compression data in the input data, based on the former compression data positioned adjacent to the piece of latter compression data and the piece of latter compression data.

Abstract: An encoder for encoding input data to generate corresponding encoded data is provided. The encoder identifies substantial reoccurrences of data blocks and/or data packets within at least a portion of the input data. The encoder then identifies, in respect of individual elements, where elements are unchanged and/or changed within the substantially reoccurring data blocks and/or data packets. Subsequently, the encoder encodes unchanged elements in the encoded data by employing at least one corresponding symbol, or at least one corresponding bit, for example a single bit, indicating an absence of change in the unchanged elements relative to corresponding elements in a reference data block and/or data packet. Moreover, the encoder encodes changed elements in the encoded data.

Abstract: Two-dimensional compressed data sets can be re-aligned while preserving compression of the data. A set of one or more shifts and a corresponding set of one or more first dimension indices into a two-dimensional compressed data set for re-aligning the two-dimensional compressed data set are determined. Impact of re-aligning upon each vector in the second dimension of the two-dimensional compressed data set is determined while the two-dimensional compressed data set remains compressed. New compressed vectors are created in the second dimension resulting from re-aligning. Compression information is modified for each of the original vectors of the two-dimensional compressed data set that remain after re-aligning based, at least in part, on the new compressed vectors. A re-aligned version of the two-dimensional compressed data set is created with the new compressed vectors, and the remaining original vectors with their modified compression information.
