摘要: A method and system of optical communication are provided. An optical modulator device includes a first and a second waveguide segment, and is configured to modulate an incident optical signal. A first feed-forward equalization (FFE) circuit including an inner first tap and an inner second tap, is configured to equalize the first waveguide segment. A second FFE circuit including a first inner tap and a second inner tap, is configured to equalize the second waveguide segment. An FFE recombination of the first inner tap and the second inner tap of the first and second FFE circuits, is in the electrical domain, respectively. An FFE recombination of the first and second modulation signals, operative to equalize a combination of the first second waveguide segments, is in the optical domain.

摘要: Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a modulator, including: a first modulation module, configured to: receive first to-be-modulated data, and output a first transmission curve according to the first to-be-modulated data; a second modulation module, configured to: receive second to-be-modulated data, and output a second transmission curve according to the second to-be-modulated data, where a period of the second transmission curve is half of a period of the first transmission curve; and a combination module, configured to perform phase superposition on the first transmission curve and the second transmission curve, to obtain a combined linear result. In addition, this solution further provides a modulation system and a method for implementing higher order modulation, so that a linear result that can be modulated can be obtained by controlling a superposition ratio between transmission curves, to implement linear curve transmission.

摘要: A linearized electro-optic modulator includes a substrate comprising a first Mach Zehnder interferometer comprising a first and second optical waveguide and a second Mach Zehnder interferometer comprising a first and a second optical waveguide. A signal electrode is positioned on the substrate to receive a modulation signal. First and second ground electrodes are positioned on the substrate and are electrically connected to ground potential. The signal electrode and the first and second ground electrodes are positioned so that an electric field generated by the signal electrode modulates both the first and second Mach Zehnder interferometers to generate a first and a second linearized modulated optical signal.

摘要: A method and apparatus for characterizing and compensating optical impairments in an optical transmitter includes operating an optical transmitter comprising a first and second parent MZ, each comprising a plurality of child MZ modulators that are biased at respective initial operating points. An electro-optic RF transfer function is generated for each of the plurality of child MZ modulators. Curve fitting parameters are determined for each of the plurality of electro-optic RF transfer functions and operating points of each child MZ modulator are determined using the curve fitting parameters. An IQ power imbalance is determined using the curve fitting parameters. Initial RF drive power levels are determined that compensate for the determined IQ power imbalance. The XY power imbalance is determined for initial RF drive power levels using the curve fitting parameters. The operating RF drive powers are determined that at least partially compensate for the first and second IQ power imbalances and for the XY power imbalance for the optical transmitter.

摘要: An apparatus includes an optical modulator and an electrical driver. The electrical driver is configured to provide to the modulator an input drive signal comprising multiple input electrical drive levels of a pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) signal. The electrical driver is further configured to provide unequal spacing between adjacent ones of the multiple input electrical drive levels, and is still further configured to provide a non-zero bias to the input drive signal. The electrical driver may be a component of an optical transmitter, and the input drive signal may be a differential drive signal. The electrical driver may be further configured such that the bias configures the modulator to produce PAM-modulated optical field output levels that are more evenly spaced than the input electrical drive levels.
