摘要: Systems and methods that include: providing input information in an electronic format; converting at least a part of the electronic input information into an optical input vector; optically transforming the optical input vector into an optical output vector based on an optical matrix multiplication; converting the optical output vector into an electronic format; and electronically applying a non-linear transformation to the electronically converted optical output vector to provide output information in an electronic format.
In some examples, a set of multiple input values are encoded on respective optical signals carried by optical waveguides. For each of at least two subsets of one or more optical signals, a corresponding set of one or more copying modules splits the subset of one or more optical signals into two or more copies of the optical signals. For each of at least two copies of a first subset of one or more optical signals, a corresponding multiplication module multiplies the one or more optical signals of the first subset by one or more matrix element values using optical amplitude modulation. For results of two or more of the multiplication modules, a summation module produces an electrical signal that represents a sum of the results of the two or more of the multiplication modules.-

摘要: A wire grid polarizer includes a base substrate, a wire grid pattern, a first stitch line extending in a first direction, and a second stitch line extending in a second direction which crosses the first direction, and including a first portion and a second portion which are discontinuous from each other, in which the wire grid pattern is evenly formed on all of the base substrate except where the first and second stitch lines exist, and the first and second stitch lines are where the wire grid pattern is unevenly formed.

摘要: An apparatus and a method for a design and a simulation of an all-optical proteretic bi-stable device. The proteresis is a reversed hysteresis with an interesting characteristic which increases the oscillation frequency of a feed-back system with a relaxation dynamics by reducing the feed-back delay. The calculation of the bi-stable device parameters, a simulation of the theoretical device, and a simulation of the all-optical device are given. Applications of the proteretic device in ultra-high speed oscillations are also disclosed.

In one embodiment, the mobile communications device includes a display having a private zone in which viewing is relatively more restricted and a non-private zone in which viewing is relatively less restricted. The mobile communications device further includes a transceiver to transmit and receive communications and an electronic processor electrically coupled to the transceiver and to the display. The electronic processor is configured to receive a message and determine whether the message is private. The electronic processor displays the message in the private zone when the message is private.

摘要: A planar lightwave circuit that can be optically coupled with an external device with low optical loss, while also providing low-power functional control over an optical signal propagating through the PLC is disclosed. The PLC includes a high-contrast waveguide region in a stress-inducing (SI) phase shifter is formed such that it can control the phase of the optical signal. The high-contrast-waveguide region is optically coupled to a low-contrast-waveguide region via a spotsize converter, thereby enabling optical coupling to off-chip devices with low optical loss. Formation of the SI phase shifter in a high-contrast-waveguide region enables improved responsivity and phase control, reduced voltage, and smaller required chip real estate. As a result, the present invention enables lower-cost and higher-performance PLC systems.
