    摘要: A path protection method includes receiving, by a source node of a first path, a path event notify message from a first node on the first path. The path event notify message includes indication information that the first path is predicted to fail. The path protection method further includes obtaining, by the source node, information about a predicted protection path. The information about the predicted protection path includes resource information of a second path useable to protect a service on the first path. The first path and the second path include the source node and a same sink node. The path protection method further includes storing, by the source node, the resource information of the second path.

    摘要: The present invention includes novel techniques, apparatus, and systems for optical WDM communications. Tunable lasers are employed to generate respective subcarrier frequencies which represent subchannels of an ITU channel to which client signals can be mapped. In one embodiment, subchannels are polarization interleaved to reduce crosstalk. In another embodiment, polarization multiplexing is used to increase the spectral density. Client circuits can be divided and combined with one another before being mapped, independent of one another, to individual subchannels within and across ITU channels. A crosspoint switch can be used to control the client to subchannel mapping, thereby enabling subchannel protection switching and hitless wavelength switching. Network architectures and subchannel transponders, muxponders and crossponders are disclosed, and techniques are employed (at the subchannel level/layer), to facilitate the desired optical routing, switching, concatenation and protection of the client circuits mapped to these subchannels across the nodes of a WDM network.

    摘要: A network management system manages preplanned alternative paths in a wavelength switched optical network for a traffic flow having a working path and two or more preplanned alternative paths from a source node to a destination node. A processing part determines if, after the fault, a number of available alternative paths for the respective traffic flow drops to a threshold. If so, a new alternative path is calculated and set up the new alternative path in the nodes, to enable one or more of the nodes to move the traffic flow onto the new alternative path in the event of further faults without waiting for input from the network management system. Thus multiple faults can be handled without the nodes needing to store details of so many such alternative paths. Otherwise, many such alternative paths are needed to take account of many different possible failure locations.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a method and devices for fast protection of an optical network system, in particular for a Passive Optical Network (PON), such as a Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON). In the method, it is detected that the communication from a first optical network device is lost. Switching of functionality is initiated from a first optical line termination device to a second optical line termination device, and a control message is sent from the second optical line termination device to the first optical network device such that the first optical network device is prevented from moving into initial state. Furthermore, the method comprises determining and setting timing settings for the first optical network device.
