    Abstract: A multipole electromagnet for injecting particles, including a hollow duct extending along a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of wire conductors that are placed parallel or substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis along the duct, electrically connected in series and arranged to conduct electric current. The directions of the electric current flowing through the wire conductors are symmetric about a first plane of symmetry. The wire conductors are distributed in multiple carrier planes that are parallel or substantially parallel to the first plane of symmetry, including two main carrier planes that are symmetric about the first plane of symmetry and located outside the hollow, each main carrier plane carrying wire conductors that conduct the electric current in the first direction and wire conductors that conduct the electric current in the second direction opposite the first direction.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for generating longitudinally modulated (micro-bunched) electron bunches and for generating coherent radiation by the emission from relativistic electrons with a density that is longitudinally modulated (micro-bunched) with a spatial dimension that is significantly below the wavelength of the emitted radiation. The light source includes a high-brightness relativistic electron beam that interacts in a magnetic structure (linear or helical undulator or wiggler) or an electromagnetic structure with a pulse of high-power electro-magnetic wave (modulation laser pulse). The interaction leads to a large energy-modulation of the electron bunch which is transformed into a spatial modulation by an energy-dispersive element that can be the same undulator.

    Abstract: A compact light source based on electron beam accelerator technology includes a storage ring, a booster ring, a linear accelerator and an undulator for providing light having the characteristics for actinic mask inspection at 13.5 nm. The booster ring and the storage ring are located at different levels in a concentric top view arrangement in order to keep the required floor space small and to reduce interference effects. Quasi-continuous injection by enhanced top-up injection leads to high intensity stability and combats lifetime reductions due to elastic beam gas scattering and Touschek scattering. Injection into the storage ring and extraction from the booster ring are performed diagonal in the plane which is defined by the parallel straight section orbits of the booster ring and the storage ring. For the top-up injection from the booster ring into the storage ring two antisymmetrically arranged Lambertson septa are used.
