    摘要: Inaccurate cuts often occur in paperboard blanks passing between a pair of cooperating die and anvil cylinders because of anvil cylinder wear, irregular blank velocity, and other factors. Such inaccuracies are reduced by driving the die cylinder at a preselected angular velocity and driving the anvil cylinder at an angular velocity proportional to the angular velocity of the die cylinder with the preselected proportion being maintained during changes in angular velocity of the die cylinder. The preferred apparatus includes a first mechanical transmission having a primary input driven by the die cylinder and a secondary input driven by a second mechanical variable-ratio transmission for driving the anvil cylinder at an angular velocity corresponding to the angular velocity of the die cylinder but with the anvil cylinder velocity being selectively variable to provide an anvil cylinder velocity selectively proportional to the velocity of the die cylinder. Additionally, a slip clutch is preferably interposed between the drive for the die cylinder and the first transmission to permit the anvil cylinder to change its rotational position relative to the rotational position of the die cylinder upon the occurence of excessive torque.

    摘要: Drive apparatus for imparting rotation in opposite directions to a pair of output shafts which are rotatable about longitudinal axes that are parallel and in close proximity to each other. The drive apparatus is comprised of a first train of pinions and gears, including an input pinion rotatable with an input shaft, a first intermediate gear that meshes with the input pinion and is mounted on a shaft which is provided with a drive pinion that meshes with a planetary ring gear and with a sun gear within the confines of the ring gear, and an output pinion that meshes with the sun gear and with the ring gear and is rotatable with one of the output shafts. The drive apparatus is also comprised of a second train of pinions and gears which is similar to the first train and includes a second intermediate gear that meshes with the first intermediate gear and an output pinion that is rotatable with the other output shaft. The pinion and gear trains are actuated simultaneously and in unison by a single prime mover connected to the input shaft of one of the trains or by a pair of prime movers, each of which is connected to the input shaft of a corresponding train.

    摘要: The driven gear of a tiltable metallurgical wheel is fastened to the trunnion shaft on which the vessel is journaled. The gear is in a housing and pairs of drive motors are supported on axially opposite sides of the housing and are coaxially coupled to a common shaft which extends across the interior of the housing. The common shaft has dual pinion gears which are the first in a gear reduction system that operates the driven gear when the motors are energized. The housing is split horizontally into at least two sections so that when the upper section is removed, the gears in the speed reduction train are exposed for maintenance.

    摘要: To permit an auxiliary power unit to start an engine without drastic temporary reduction of the running speed of that unit, the engine is coupled to the auxiliary power unit by a differential gear drive whose third element drives a gear pump having in that outlet which is the delivery outlet when the auxiliary power unit drives the engine, a normally unloaded pressure retaining valve which, to produce starting torque for the engine, can be loaded to build-up a preset delivery pressure. A pre-loaded pressure-retaining valve may be provided in the other pump outlet in order to permit transmission of torque from the main engine to the auxiliary power unit, both valves being by-passed in the respectively reverse direction by non-return valves.
