Abstract: Non-human animals and offspring thereof comprising at least one modified chromosomal sequence in a gene encoding a CD163 protein are provided. Animal cells that contain such modified chromosomal sequences are also provided. The animals and cells have increased resistance to pathogens, including porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). The animals and offspring have chromosomal modifications of a CD163 gene. The invention further relates to methods of breeding to create pathogen-resistant animals and populations of animals made using such methods.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for using DNA markers and advances in genetic phenotyping information to obtain canine offspring having a desired phenotype, wherein the genetic information of a canine sire or dam, the known parent, is used in combination with the desired phenotype of the offspring to thereby determine the necessary DNA markers of the unknown canine parent, generating a visual illustration of the unknown canine parent, and then searching through a database of potential sires and dams to identify a dam or sire that most closely resembles the predicted unknown canine parent.

Abstract: The invention relates to a sex determination (SD) marker of a male Mugilidae fish comprising a nucleic acid sequence corresponding to a sequence of a Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) gene of said fish and including at least one male (Y) specific nucleotide difference when compared to a corresponding sequence on a FSHR gene of a female Mugilidae fish. Abstract: Applicants have identified that three critical phenotypic/genetic measures are highly correlated with transition period health and may be used in selection and breeding protocols and/or in combination with traditional breeding and marker assisted selection methods to improve predictability of transition period health. According to the invention genetic evaluations for mastitis, ketosis, and metritis have been found to be highly predictive of overall transition health. The genetic evaluations are produced by directly measuring thousands of clinical cases of mastitis, ketosis, and metritis in ancestors of a particular animal and using this data in selection. Applicant's selection criteria and quickly impact a breeders population by reducing transition cow disease incidence in the initial population and in progeny.

Abstract: A method for micro-ridge mixed-sowing cultivation of dryland crops includes the following steps: S1: cleaning ditches and draining away water in dryland; S2: harvesting the preceding crop, leaving the stubble, smashing the stalks of the preceding crop, and then spreading the smashed stalks on the stubble; S3: trenching the dryland to form ecological trenches; S4: flattening the standing stubble and the smashed stalks on the seedbed surface to form an underlying surface, molding seed-fertilizer-soil compounds into a ridge shape and falling the seed-fertilizer-soil compounds on the underlying surface to form ecological ridges, wherein a plurality of ecological ridges are formed between adjacent ecological trenches, an ecological depression is formed between adjacent ecological ridges, and after sowing, an irrigation is carried out once in a manner, wherein the manner includes: draining water shortly after the irrigation, without leaving a water layer in the field. The seed-fertilizer-soil compounds are obtained by thoroughly mixing soil with seeds of the dryland crops and chemical fertilizers.
