摘要: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for determining an auscultatory diagnostic decision. Auscultation of the heart is a well-defined and standard component of physical examinations of patients, however it is a difficult procedure particularly because a stethoscope transfers only a small fraction of the acoustic signal at the chest surface to the listener's ears and filters the cardiac acoustic signal in the process. The system assists listeners by implementing a graphical user interface and voice guided protocol to record data and analyze results for the presence of heart sounds and murmurs. The results are identified in terms of standard clinical auscultatory findings which may then be used to make diagnostic and referral decisions.

摘要: Provided is a device for attachment to the head of a horse to enable recording of respiratory sounds in the intensely exercising animal, e.g., in a breezing Thoroughbred racehorse. Also provided are methods for predicting racing performance in a horse, e.g., a Thoroughbred race horse, comprising measuring expiratory and/or inspiratory times for a subject horse during exercise and relating such information to anatomy, front leg stance times and/or front leg stance distances and/or to speed (velocity) to determine the animal's potential to sustain a superior rate of ground coverage for a desired amount of time and identify a maximum comfortable velocity for the animal. A presently preferred embodiment of the methods of the invention comprises predicting performance via identification of expiratory time determined directly from the analysis of recorded respiratory sound from the exercising animal.

摘要: A method for determining the anatomic condition of components of the body of a human or of an animal is disclosed comprising producing a sound signal in a selected component of the body by at least one of passive and active movements of at least one joint. The method includes recording a sound signal at a point adjacent to the selected component of the body and evaluating the sound signal. An auxiliary device selected from the group consisting of a splint, an orthosis and an exercise machine is used which ensures a repeatable movement determined by the design of the auxiliary device. The sound signal caused by the movement is recorded and evaluated by a spectral analysis of frequencies and amplitudes contained in the sound signal. A comparison is made with reference patterns of the spectral analyses for the diagnosis of the anatomic condition. The result of a diagnosis is indicated as at least one of a print out and a screen display and wherein the joint investigated is schematically illustrated on the screen display, optionally with associated soft tissues, tendons and ligaments. The diagnosis is indicated visually, by at least one of coloring, lighting up of and flashing of damaged positions.

摘要: An automatic diagnostic apparatus with a stethoscope is disclosed in which the name of a disease is automatically determined and recorded based on auscultated sounds. Standard data of auscultated sounds for cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal diseases are inputted into a computer beforehand. Then the waveforms of the auscultated sounds from stethoscoping a patient are converted into digital data and inputted into a computer, and the digital data signals are compared, with searches, with the standard data which have been inputted into the computer in advance. By this process the names of diseases are determined, and the names of diseases thus determined are automatically recorded in a recording device and displayed on monitors so that treatment can initiate swiftly with enhanced credibility of the objective diagnostic process through consensus between the physician and the patient.

摘要: A non-invasive brain assessment monitor is disclosed. An embodiment of the monitor includes a head-mounted brain sensor which passively senses acoustic signals generated from pulsing blood flow through a patient's brain. A reference sensor may be mounted at another location on the patient's body to sense an arterial pulse, and the signals from the brain sensor and reference sensor may be compared. Another embodiment includes transmitters which generate acoustic signals in the brain which are also detected by the brain sensor. The brain assessment monitor may be used to detect conditions such as head trauma, stroke and hemorrhage.
