摘要： Physiologically acceptable films, including edible films, are disclosed. The films include a water soluble film-forming polymer such as pullulan. Edible films are disclosed that include pullulan and antimicrobially effective amounts of the essential oils thymol, methyl salicylate, eucalyptol and menthol. The edible films are effective at killing the plaque-producing germs that cause dental plaque, gingivitis and bad breath. The film can also contain pharmaceutically active agents. Methods for producing the films are also disclosed.

摘要： Therapeutic compositions for the treatment of tinnitus are described which contain effective amounts of Ginkgo biloba, garlic and zinc. In formulations containing greater than 50 mg of zinc, the composition may further contain copper. Methods of treating patients having tinnitus include prescribing effective daily doses of the therapeutic compositions of the present invention over a sixty to ninety day period to maximize improvement in the condition, followed by a daily regimen of the therapeutic compositions.

摘要： A basic therapeutic unit comprises an aqueous solution of copper associated with a skin- and tissue-penetration enabler. Topical application of the unit to the skin penetrates therethrough and through subjacent tissue so that the copper resides at the sites of spider veins for the alleviation or elimination thereof. The copper solution may be copper gluconate and the enabler may be a liposome. A quantity of these therapeutic units may be suspended in a cream or emollient. Additional substances, such as vasodilators, thickeners, preservatives and dispersants may be encapsulated by or contained in the bilayer of the liposome or may be added to the cream.

摘要： Methods and compositions for altering the viability of cells, particularly cancers in animals and humans are disclosed. The compositions of the present invention are formed from a set of components comprising one or more of the following: a dithiocarbonyl, preferably dithiocarbamate, compound; a divalent metal ion; a modulator of cellular glutathione levels; and an inhibitor of the phosphorylation of choline. The compositions described herein induce a relatively selective and rapid effect on the viability of cancer cells by inducing a mixture of apoptotic and necrotic cell death, with the dominant pathway being apoptosis. Particularly preferred active compositions comprise all four components, although combinations of fewer components can be fully effective in certain tumors.
