摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for performing rf intraluminal reduction and/or occlusion with a virtual electrode. An apparatus in accord with the present invention includes a catheter and a guide wire. The guide wire includes a conductive core having a proximal end electrically connected to a generator of rf current and an exposed distal end. An insulative material having disposed therein at least one microlumen for providing a conductive fluid to a target site within the lumen encases the guide wire. In a method in accord with the present invention, an rf conductive fluid is introduced at the target site in a body lumen. Radio frequency current is applied to the site by a conductive electrode through the conductive fluid, causing the connective tissues in the lumen walls to heat and contract. Application of the rf current is discontinued when the lumen wall has contracted or been reduced to the desired extent, which will often be complete occlusion.

摘要: A therapeutic device and the use of it to alleviate the symptoms of health-related disorders. The device includes a magnetic field generator capable of creating a magnetic field, a power supply for providing power to energize the generator to generate a generated magnetic field, and a controller coupled to the power source for varying the power provided by the power supply to the generator. A method of alleviating the symptoms of a health-related disorder includes the steps of determining the direction and strength of the predominant component of a local magnetic field, generating a first magnetic field within a zone, wherein the first magnetic field is opposite in direction to the predominant component, wherein the first magnetic field is of sufficient strength such that within the zone the resulting field is between approximately 10,000 nT and 30,000 nT or between approximately −10,000 nT and −30,000 nT (or of sufficient strength to provide therapeutic value) and positioning an individual having health-related disorder symptoms substantially within the zone for a period of time sufficient to alleviate the symptoms.

摘要: An implantable stimulating electrode for directly contacting the endocardium of a human heart exhibits low polarization values of less than about 0.3 mV and is intended for use with an implantable lead having an electrical connector coupled to the proximal end of a conductor for releasable attachment to a stimulating pulse generator. The electrode is comprised of a metallic substrate having an initially exposed outer surface substantially covered with a first inner layer of titanium nitride and a second outer layer of platinum black. The first inner layer of titanium nitride has a thickness of less than about 15 microns and the second outer layer of platinum black overlying the layer of titanium nitride, similarly, has a thickness of less than about 15 microns. The invention includes a method of making the implantable stimulating electrode.

摘要: An implantable endocardial lead intended for use with a cardiac stimulation device includes an elongated lead body of flexible resilient material, for example, silicone rubber or polyurethane, having a longitudinally extending lumen defined by a plurality of longitudinally extending side wall surfaces, adjacent pairs of the side wall surfaces lying in angularly disposed planes and intersecting at an energy absorbing corner ridge. An electrical conductor is located loosely within and extends longitudinally along the lumen between proximal and distal ends. With this construction, forces imposed laterally on the lead body by the conductor engaging the side wall surfaces of the lumen upon bending of the lead body are absorbed without damaging the lead body by reason of engagement of the conductor with a corner ridge causing the corner ridge thereby engaged to recede toward a condition of being coplanar with its subtended pair of side wall surfaces.

摘要: A multi-functional portable electro-medical device provides interferential current stimulation to promote bone growth. Two electrical signals are applied to a target area, each electrical signal being formed by a set of two electrode pads. A beat frequency is created at the location the signals intersect with each other. The beat frequency is the difference between the frequencies of the two signals and has an amplitude that is additive and greater than either signal alone. The depth of the interferential signal is increased by increasing the carrier frequency of the signals. The direction of the interferential signal shifts toward the signal having the lower amplitude. The electrical stimulation is used in combination with biologics to further increase bone growth.

摘要: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for introducing a conductive fluid and delivering an electrical current to the fluid at a target site in a body lumen. The electrical current is delivered to the site by a conductive electrode through the conductive fluid, causing the tissues in the lumen walls, or peripheral to the lumen walls, to heat and contract. Application of the current can be discontinued when the lumen wall has contracted or been reduced to the desired extent, which will often be complete occlusion. Alternatively, the current can be applied until tissues peripheral to the lumen are effected.
