A centrifugal separator for cleaning of a gas from solid and/or liquid particles suspended therein, includes a stationary housing and a rotor arranged therein. The rotor at its one axial end has a central inlet for gas to be cleaned and delimits a central space communicating with the inlet. Around the central space a stack of conical separation discs is arranged in the rotor. These discs form between themselves several through flow passages which at their one ends communicate with the central space in the rotor and at their other ends communicate directly with a receiving chamber surrounding the rotor in the stationary housing. The rotor supports several turbine blades, which are arranged in a ring around the central inlet of the rotor, and at least one nozzle is adapted to direct a gaseous driving fluid towards the turbine blades for the rotor rotation.

The pockets allow droplets entrained in a gas stream to impinge and cling to the vane, and then drain, without being re-entrained in the gas stream because they are protected from the gas stream by a portion of the pocket which defines the channel. The device does not increase the pressure drop when compared with a similar device lacking the pockets, and allows for a higher throughput before breakthrough occurs.

The positioning of a poppet relative to a poppet seat can be set manually into nullopen,null nullclosednull and nullarmednull positions, the latter indicating that the apparatus has been configured so as to intercept automatically any explosion that is transmitted to it through a gas line so as to yield a valve nullclosednull configuration, and that closed position can then be locked in manually. Sets of baffles, suppression media and shock resonating orifice plates serve not only to close the necessary valves to prevent damage to equipment to which the apparatus is connected, but also to extinguish combustion within the apparatus itself and back up the line to the source of the explosion. The valves are self-actuating under breach conditions.

For preparing a gas stream cleaned from dust and dirt particles, a device is proposed in which an outflow channel (2) for cleaned medium has at its mouth in an inflow channel (1) an extension element (4), which projects into the inflow channel. A cover element (6) covers an end inflow aperture (4a) of the extension element. In an embodiment of the invention, the extension element (4) has lateral inlet apertures (5). The cover element (6) is preferably constituted hood-shaped, and has axial extension elements (6a), which at least partially cover the extension element (4) in the axial direction, and advantageously extend over the lateral inlet apertures. The stream entering the outflow channel (2) for cleaned medium must overcome strong flow deflections, so that particles with a low flow following ability cannot get into this channel. Further outflow channels (3) for conducting the remaining dust-laden medium are arranged substantially flush with the wall (7) of the inflow channel.
