Abstract: A system to control operation of an HVAC unit for conditioning indoor air quality in a multi-zone area is disclosed, The system comprises a controller adapted to be operatively connected to an air handling unit (AHU) associated with the HVAC unit. The controller is configured to receive, from one or more sensors installed at a plurality of zones of an area of interest (AOI), a set of data packets pertaining to indoor air quality (IAQ) at each of the zones in real-time. Further, when the IAQ of any of the plurality of zones is detected to be above a first predefined level, the controller enables the AHU and the HVAC unit to circulate air from at least one of the remaining zones having the IAQ below the first predefined level to the zones having the IAQ above the first predefined level.

Abstract: A method of conditioning air includes controlling, by a thermostat, an HVAC system to condition the air within an enclosed space according to one or more temperature setpoints stored in a memory of the thermostat and the temperature within the enclosed space. Weather data for outside the enclosed space is received and compared to a previously received preference. The HVAC system is controlled to condition the air according to the one or more temperature setpoints and the temperature within the enclosed space when the weather data does not satisfy the preference. When the weather data satisfies the preference, the user is notified that heating or cooling by the HVAC system will be turned off and that the user should open the at least one opening to outside of the enclosed space, and the thermostat controls the HVAC system to stop conditioning the air.

Abstract: An indoor air quality monitor for an HVAC system includes a monitor body formed with a plurality of chambers defined at least in part by chamber walls. A bypass chamber allows for a majority of airflow entering the monitor to pass through. An intake chamber coupled to the bypass chamber allows for a portion of air to be removed for sampling by a particulate sensor. Air from the particulate sensor is discharged to an outlet chamber that is fluidly coupled to a downstream portion of the bypass chamber. The fluid requirements of the particulate sensor are maintained without overwhelming or underwhelming the particulate sensor.

The control device is further configured to store the average air quality metric. The control device is further configured to generate an air filter type recommendation based on the average air quality metric.

Abstract: Systems and methods for integrating a building management system communicatively coupled to a security subsystem via a communication network, in which the building management system determines occupancy data, with a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning subsystem that includes a scrubber unit communicatively coupled to the building management system via the communication network. The scrubber unit includes a contaminant filter that sorbs air contaminants from a surrounding environment when an elevated pressure differential is introduced across the contaminant filter; an inlet sensor that determines sensor data indicative of contaminant level present in return air received by the scrubber unit from an internal portion of the building; and scrubber control circuitry that selectively instructs the scrubber unit to operate in one of multiple regeneration modes based at least in part on the occupancy data and the sensor data to facilitate improving filtering efficiency provided by the contaminant filter during subsequent operation.

Abstract: An air treatment device is disclosed. The air treatment device includes an air duct configured to deliver an air flow. A first filter stage is included and comprises at least one air filter arranged in the air duct for filtering the air flow. At least a second filter stage is also included and comprises at least one further air filter and is arranged downstream of the first filter stage (for filtering the air flow after having passed the first filter stage. The second filter stage is controllable between at least two states with different filtration efficiencies, whereby, with respect to a filtration efficiency in the first state, a filtration efficiency in the second state is lower, in particular the filtration efficiency in the second state is essentially zero. An air quality sensor is also present, the sensor allowing for measuring the air quality of the air flow in between the first and the second air filter stages.
