Abstract:
Electronic air cleaners for use in heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC) systems and associated methods and systems are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an electronic air cleaner includes one or more collecting electrodes having a collection material with a porous, open-cell structure and a conductive internal portion. The collection material can be configured to collect and receive charged particulate matter in an airflow path. After a period of time, used collection material can be removed from individual collecting electrodes and replaced with new collection material.
Abstract:
An air filtration system includes a frame directing an airflow through the air filtration system and a media filter. The media filter includes a plurality of media fibers arranged to capture particles flowing therethrough and a conductive surface located at the media filter and having a conductivity within a selected range. Two or more contact pads are located at the media filter and are alignable with an electrical circuit located at the frame to determine whether a resistance across the conductive plane is within a selected resistance range. A method of installing a media filter in an air filtration system includes inserting the media filter into a frame of the air filtration system and aligning one or more contact pads of the media filter with one or more grounding pads of the frame. A resistance across the media filter is measured.
Abstract:
An onsite chemistry air filtration system to remove gaseous contaminants from air is disclosed. The onsite chemistry air filtration system of the present invention comprises: a conventional particulate filtration section, a photochemical filtration section, a static gas phase filtration section and a catalytic filtration section. The conventional particulate filtration section captures solids and condensables. In the photochemical filtration section, UV lamps generate bio-destruction and surface photochemical activity on a semiconductor catalyst material, provide a radiation source to irradiate airborne contaminant molecules and to energize their states to promote reactions and generate airborne ozone and radicals. In the static gas phase filtration section, gas phase filtration media is used to capture contaminants, concentrate them in a relatively confined space and allow airborne generated chemistries to concentrate and react in-situ, thereby creating a regeneration effect on the media. In the catalytic filtration section, catalytic media scavenges and converts airborne radicals and ozone to harmless by-products.

This invention relates to an electronic air filter of the charged media type in which the filter media and screens form a disposable cartridge. The high voltage power supply, which is made long and slender, attaches to the side of the cartridge and it is powered by a low voltage power supply.
Abstract:
In an electric dust collector including a case having a dust-containing gas inlet and a clean gas outlet; a charging section for electrically charging the dust particles by means of the corona discharge on the side of said dust-containing gas inlet of said case; a collecting section for collection the dust particles passing through said charging section and electrically charged, by means of the Coulomb force; and a d.c. high voltage power source for applying a d.c. high voltage to said charging section and to said collecting section; the present invention discloses an electric dust collector wherein each electrode plate of said collecting section consists of a ribbon-like insulation film strip and an electrically conductive layer or layers having a width narrower than that of said film and formed on either one face or both faces of said film so as to form insulation sections on both side edges of said conductive layer or layers, and said collecting section consists of a plurality of said electrode plates would up spirally or laminated with each other with a predetermined gap between them via insulation spacers of an insulation material disposed on said insulation sections so as to allow the passage of the gas therethrough.
Abstract:
A door latch and safety arrangement for an electrostatic precipitator is comprised of a spring contact to engage at least one of the plates of one polarity to thereby connect those plates to a first grounded terminal of a high voltage power supply when the door is in place and the latch is in the locked position. A test button is arranged so that when it is momentarily depressed and while the latch is locked, the spring contact is also moved towards the plates that are connected to the second terminal of the power supply and charged with the other polarity to thus produce an audible spark indicating the charged condition of the plates. When the latch is moved to the unlocked position, switch means connected therewith de-energizes the power supply. Moving the latch to the unlocked position also moves the spring means to simultaneously connect together precipitator plates of opposite charges and thus short circuit the collector cell and eliminate any residual charge therein.

Abstract:
This invention provides an improved electronic air filter comprising fibrous material such as glass fibers which are polarized by insulated screens. The screens are charged with high voltage provided by a power supply which is an integral part of the filter unit. This arrangement provides a filter with extremely low ozone emission.
